If you want a fully open source Linux phone, the best option is to get whatever is supported by a mobile distro. I think PostmarketOS has some of the best support, but I may be mistaken. There’s also Ubuntu Touch, Mobian, and I want to say one more I’m forgetting.

PostmarketOS works pretty decently on certain hardware from my understanding. Apps are lacking, though. I think you might be able to run Android apps through something like Waydroid, but I think certain apps like bank apps don’t like that.

I’m concerned you may not even need to connect it to the internet. It may be enough for a neighbor to leave their WiFi unsecured. The TV may very well watch for one and use it to upload.

If they’ll go for it, the most reliable way will be to offer them extra email addresses on your mail server. Sometimes, when a mail provider decides they don’t trust an incoming email, they don’t mark it as spam or reject it and send a notification response. They just… Silently drop it without ever mentioning it to sender or recipient. The only genuinely reliable way I’ve heard to build and maintain the reputation to avoid that is to send way more mail than a few individuals can manage, even with your services sending notifications. Theoretically, you can do it with really low mail volume if you jump through a whole bunch of hoops, but nothing is really guaranteed long term.

How worthwhile is it to cling to their approval when it directly interferes with your happiness? I dunno, I won’t say what’s the right or wrong move, but it’s always sad to hear about the people who don’t feel like they’re allowed to be themselves because of others. You’re 1,000% allowed to embrace it, but only you can really decide if it’s worth the costs.

Original comment was lamenting inability to record at 4k 60 FPS, but I thought they wanted to view 4k on the phone, like with a 4k display. If I remember right, the detail would be too fine to really matter on a phone screen, but if you’re recording instead, you can obviously just watch on something else and I sound like an idiot.

Sounds to me like you’re insecure and looking for a free handout instead of being able to come up with a coherent reason for why you’re owed something you’ve not earned.

You’re spending more effort to be a smug prick than it would take to just rattle off an example or three. Sounds more to me like you don’t know what the fuck you’re talking about and just want to publicly stroke your… Ego.
Just get an emulation handheld. With Steam offering ARM support through a translation layer, a strong one can even run a surprising array of PC games these days. My Retroid Pocket Flip 2 isn’t even that nice as far as these things go, and it plays just about any 2D game I’ve tried and a lot of 3D from the '00s and early '10s, later if they don’t press limits. You can also attach them to TVs and use normal controllers, including multiplayer.
