• 1-Game-1-ROM, these are usually the cleanest ROM packs where you dont get the flood of alternative translations, revisions, modded ROMs, etc.

• 1G1R packs are easy to come by, maybe take a peek over at archive.org

  I wouldn’t worry about what comes preloaded on the device, and instead focus on things like hardware/software quality, UI/UX, form factor, and compatibility with the games you’re interested in.

  I’ve got an Analogue Pocket because I wanted to play a mix of physical and digital content and it’s great, but it really only plays up to GBA or so. No PS or more modern games, so there’s that potential downside.

  Which is exactly why companies like Ubisoft are so dead set on forcing 3rd party launchers down everybody’s throats. They want to drag you out of the Steam ecosystem so they can pocket a bigger piece of the pie and infect your computer with god knows what.

  I’d love access to diagnostic data. Is the filter starting to clog? Is any part not working as intended? I’m a big fan of preventative maintenance, but also really bad at sticking to an arbitrary recurring schedule (e.g., clean the filter every 6 months). This could also be accomplished with Bluetooth and an offline-only app on the phone.

  In the real world? Nobody provides this, and the privacy risks aren’t worth it.

  I do have my dishwasher on a ZigBee power meter to 1) track energy use and 2) give me a good-enough estimate of time remaining by starting a 2h timer after it starts.

• I mean just about every metric I’ve seen suggests most websites that see an increase in scraping see a decrease in actual human visitors. I doubt there’s much distinction between chat and search users - the goal of these services is to drop click-through rates.

• These will never have any meaningful effect unless you can convince an entire city of people they don’t need to daylight their yards/streets/closed businesses at night “for safety”, and until you can convince an entire planet of businesses their billboards and signs can fuck right off.

  There’s such an unbelievable amount of light pollution on this planet and 99% of the population is indifferent at best, and actively opposed because they think their lights are “pretty/tasteful/necessary” at worst.

  Even if you had a community commit to these lights, all it takes is one distracted driver mowing down a pedestrian crossing the street to send neighbors into a tizzy to get a city council to bring back the 660000 lumen flood lights. Who cares that the car had headlights, the community needs something to blame and played the safety card. Game over.

  /rant, sorry about that but I hate light pollution so much and feel like this is always a losing battle. It can be done but fuck people.
