This. Totally this. Illicit recording of live broadcast radio performances of black jazz and blues artists in the 20’s and 30’s was how the major labels got their coffers large enough to start to change laws to protect them from others doing what they did to those original musicians.
The copyright enforcement laws came into place once they’d established themselves by breaking copyrights.

Indeed! Where I work just had some update fly on on the Windows PC that locked the kids out of getting in to it, even though I have it set up to be a direct login, it wanted a Microsoft account…
Oh hell no, local password only.
The initial install was the first release of Win 10 Pro so none of that online crap.
Had to get them to reboot the system to give that whole setup nonsense the slip.
It never happens with the systems we have running the older macOSes… which is perfect.
I’m in the process of trying to convince the CEO of pivoting to an open source office suite and away from MS entirely, so we can have universal compatibility regardless of the platform.
What MS has done to Orfice for Mac is a shitshow.

I turned it all off as even to this day, I use obsolete kit. My newest Mac is a 2010 MacBook Pro, running dosdude1’s unsupported Mojave, as I require the 32-bit support for my ancient copy of Photoshop CS3. Siri was a non-starter and I just brought that habit forward when I got my iPhone. I wouldn’t say it’s being a Luddite so much as it is making my machines run as quickly as they can with the OSes I installed. Gotta cut the telemetry and cloud shit out as much as possible.

Just never use Siri. It’s been available how long? I’ve always shut it off from the get-go. Also, I do not use my Apple ID to log in my computers.
Always use a local password for the hardware and just avoid the cloud like the plague.
FFS, I don’t even keep my music libraries in the default location, since all sorts of holy hell seems to arise (on my ancent systems anyhow) when I do.
This is like all things Apple - you just avoid the new shit, and step away from updating the OS until the first or second update drops because the first adopters are ALWAYS the actual beta testers.
Been that way since MacOS 7.

That sounds like your friend was in a custom mode that was set to eaasier than you.
I build in Creative mostly now (2,000+ hours in) and have been visited by griefers that tried to shoot me (didn’t work, 'cos hello… creative!) and in one case, the guy came in surrounded by a cloud of VERY salty Sentinels that swarmed my base area and were chasing and shooting at both of us.
It’s quite irritating to get shot at while you’re trying to build something.
Once he cottoned on that I wasn’t killable, he checked out the build, gave a thumbs up and left and the Sentinels went with him, never to be seen again.
It’s definitely weird when different play modes meet, for sure.

If you’re like me and don’t even own a credit card, these assholes have zero power over any aspect of my life because anything they own/control, I wouldn’t want to use anyhow. NGL, for some stuff - like records of distant family that have died, things like stats about them, the vital records… Google is much better. I tried DDG, Bing and yahoo even (gag) and half of what I was looking for never showed in those search results.

tenbluelinks.org solves that pesky AI problem. Load up the google web search and then use the element picker in uBO to remove the ai links on the search page and presto! Better searches and results.

Tell me aobut it. I took a trip last year to Arizona - paid for by a relative that bought me a first class seat. Now it’s been almost 30 years since I’ve travelled first class and I was shocked… It was coach, with a dinner. The seats were what USED to be the coach seats. Just as crowded, just as uncomfortable and the food was on-par with an equity-run hoaspital. Fuck. That. Shit. Next time I go out west, am taking extra days for travel and getting a sleeper room on Amtrak. The trains have seats like the airlines used to… big, wide, recline and comfy.

I now use the right click “open in new tab” on any video so if it is AI, I can close the tab then hit the list where the video was and then go to the action dots to the right of it and “do not recommend” the channel. Have managed to give most of the godawful HFY videos the slip (…though recently new AI channels have popped up in my feed… Urgh…)
Oooo, that happens and I’d make it a point to contact the manufacturer/creator of said advertised product or service and politely inform them that because of the interruption of MY TIME, while relxing in a game, I will now never, ever consider their company, goods or services.
Make it formal, concise and final and if possible send it to the CEO. You want that one to come down on the head of whomever decided to insert themselves into a player’s game - get them in trouble with the boss - with a vengeance.
It often works.
