• Yup, proxmox is great.

  Note that you can’t (or rather, shouldn’t) run docker containers on proxmox. Most people run a vm and then docker inside that. And yes, I use Debian for it

  You can give proxmox a docker container reference, but it’ll download and convert it to LXC, which means you can’t update the container. You’d have to update the container’s os and the app manually, or redeploy the container and reattach the storage.

• It’s because they’re big companies. The bigger they get, the less they can focus on any one thing. More people means more risk of someone being unqualified, and less oversight through more layers of middle management, most of whom are also unqualified.

  Your local business employs fifteen people. One owner, two managers, and 12 staff. Everyone knows everyone and if they’re truly bad at their job they can’t deflect and skate (unless the owner allows it).

• Immich isn’t complex, and I don’t think it requires a separate database.

  Edit: just checked and technically it does, but if you use the docker compose then it deploys it automatically and you don’t have to think about it at all.

  Edit2: if you really want something dead simple, yeah you could trivially write a tiny script to list and thumbnail images. I’m sure there are apache plugins for exactly this.

• Video is not legal in public in some countries. In Germany, for example, it is illegal to film people on the street.

  If you’re recording a building or something, and there are incidental people, that’s fine, but with these glasses you’re walking around pointing the camera directly at people.

  Regardless, even where it’s legal, most people wouldn’t know how to recognize them. They’re not obvious. • The macOS license agreement specifies you may only run it on Apple hardware. That means Xserve. So if you’re developing for macOS or iOS and want to use Xcode and target Mac platforms, you need this.
