The second best thing they can say is no
The worst thing they can say is “HELP! SOMEONE HELP! CALL THE POLICE!” While filming you and posting it on social media to their 150 000 followers. Thats the worst thing they can say.

And then there’s me where I seem to have a workspace for every topic or task, and I use GNOME scratchpads to quickly have single view apps pop in and out independant of my workspace (and so scratchpad brings the app to me, instead of dragging me to the app).
Ive used tiling windows before and it doesn’t really help me much. I can configure workspaces with full or split windows myself and not touch them instead swapping around using workspace shortcuts.

on Canada's PM Carney: "This fall we will begin intense discussions with the European Union, the world's second-largest economy, to build a much stronger and deeper economic and security partnership" in c/europe@feddit.org · 26 Aug 2026
The ocean is actually a big benefit. The cheapest way to move the most good possible is by ship, followed by trains, and finally trucks.
Having sea access on both sides of Canada allows it to trade with the world. Honestly the lack of navigable waterways for trade in Canada are a bigger hindrance. The US benefits from the Mississippi river system you can run barges on deeeeep into the US for dirt cheap transport. Canada has the Hudson’s Bay but its not exactly the same since it ices over most of the year.

on Is there any tape media backup system that works through USB? in c/selfhosted@lemmy.world · 23 Aug 2026
It depends on the generation. Older tapes and drives are a lot cheaper, especially second hand but hold less (tapes aren’t meant to be overwritten a lot though so typically you want unused. New old stock or new).
Most homelabbers use LTO-6 or 5, and you can also upgrade your drive and still read your old tapes (except for the newest generations iirc)
I haven’t looked at a price comparison for years, so I’m going off pre AI numbers. It was cheaper then spinning rust back then for $/TB (for my setup it was cheaper than rust by a massive margin since I have a quarter petabyte of storage. Amortizing a tape drive over that many tapes gets cheap quickly), but maybe its different now?

I haven’t tried it myself but I’ve been looking at NetBird.
Maybe others who’ve used it or know more can chime in on if this is a good idea or not?

Historically all the people I’m talking about made those games and are now gone, which is my point. I unfortunately don’t have high hopes for their next game if their recent writing in GTA5 is any indication…

Zfs does atomic snapshots and also computes the diff between snapshots when you zfs send/receive to remote. You can set up syncoid scripts to do all of this automagically and ensure source and dest match, have regular snapshots, and to manage retention schhedules on both ends.

All most of the people who made GTA 5 are long gone. The game isn’t going to be edgy nor will it be pushing the envelope the way all their other games did. Its going to be safe and filled with inclusive dad jokes that suck the air out of the room… with character banter heavily inspired by wannabe MCU dialogue (which is also shit BTW but they emulate it because they want to be as successful as Marvel)
E: I was being hyperbolic to make a point…
Dan Houser: the bigger loss by most accounts. Co-founder and lead writer on essentially every GTA since the series’ 1997 debut through GTA V, plus Red Dead Redemption 2, Bully, and Max Payne 3. He left in 2020, and has confirmed directly that he wrote none of GTA 6 “They’re always a new story. It’s not going to be a story I wrote or a character set that I developed.” He’s since said the sheer scale of GTA V and RDR2’s workload (450,000 lines of dialogue for RDR2 alone) burned him out before GTA 6 could even get going. He’s now running his own studio, Absurd Ventures.
Leslie Benzies: arguably even more central to the actual production side. He was producer on every GTA from GTA III onward and ran Rockstar North as president, credited by some as one of “the three people most directly responsible for the massive success of the Grand Theft Auto series,” alongside the Houser brothers. He left in 2016 amid a lawsuit over allegedly unpaid royalties, worth $150 million US, and disputes over who was ultimately responsible for the company’s success. He’s since founded Build A Rocket Boy (whose own game, MindsEye, launched poorly this year).
They still have Sam houser and their art director, and there are still veteran developers they aren’t all gone… I just think most of the mojo is gone from the company that has a game wide impact on its direction.

I once got into an argument with someone about how AI PRs are terrible and overwhelm FOSS projects which are already notoriously understaffed and burned out. Eventually I just started having Claude generate the most verbose responses it could, prefaced with “to make my point, from now on to continue this argument you’ll need to read a mountain of AI slop I probably didn’t read myself, and all I have to do is copy and paste into Claude and hit generate”
