• The certificate is only used for authentication. The actual data is encrypted with a temporary symmetric key that is generated via a diffie-hellman exchange

• Still is in many ways. I’m not sure sure if you’ve used a Linux phone recently but they have worse security and usability than anything Android has to offer.

  Custom roms like Lineage OS offer a much better experience. It would be cool if Android was a bit more open or there was an actual alternative but for now AOSP based systems are still much better

• I’m not sure what you mean by “driver level.” Configuring vlans in openwrt will configure the hardware. (It is really the Linux kernel that does the heavy lifting)

• I whole hardily disagree as many parties have a vested interest in trying to convince you to stay out of local politics. The reason city councils are so easily swayed is because few people actually participate in there local government. Even if the local leadership is faulty democracy means that they can be voted out of office or recalled. Large companies are terrified of the local population and thus will try to convince you that it is hopeless
