Enclo is not an aromatase inhibitor. It is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (a SERM).
That activity in the hypothalamus is the mechanism by which it boosts the production of leutenizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone, signaling for increased production of gonadal hormones up to baseline, which is how it treats hypogonadism in cis men.
The estrogen receptor modulation itself, however, systemically dampens signals from estrogen throughout the body, meaning the estrogen levels aren’t targeted. They might remain the same. But more signal volume is required for the same estrogenic effects. Where aromatase factors are high, E levels will rise with T.
So? Symptoms resulting from contraindicated therapy can be quite severe.
Because aromatization factors in the body remain the same, and T levels are allowed to rise in spite of it, there are various situations in which this distinction could be extremely important, because the moment the SERM-induced E insensitivity is lifted, the E levels that have been allowed to quietly rise will take effect quite suddenly.
