What could anyone possibly do with that? It costs like $50 to get one in California, not sure about other states.

Mastodon gains less traction because it doesn’t have an advertising budget, unlike Bluesky. Because Bluesky is owned by a corporation.
Is Bluesky federated? I thought it wasn’t. Tumblr also said they were going to, but then just… didn’t.

Bluesky is also owned by a corporation and, like Twitter, could sell to a fascist billionaire whenever they find it profitable to do so.
X vs Bluesky is a great microcosm of American team-sports politics. Mastodon is something actually new.

Don’t plankton mostly release that back into the atmosphere when they die though? Trees sequester it underground as roots and above ground as wood (assuming it doesnt burn, which is an increasingly ambitious assumption)

Most “we plant a tree for every _____” things are just scams. They plant the trees, sometimes as monocrops that could never become a healthy forest, and usually without monitoring the trees or guaranteeing their survival into at least early-maturity.
There is a record, but there’s no central database unless you get an MMIC card which is different than what probably 99.9% of people do (but also larger tax benenfits)
