Yeah umm I’m not the one who’s very transparently looking for an excuse to scold others on what they’re doing wrong. You made that pretty clear when you rushed to aggressively and condescendingly assume that I was unwilling to do anything different. Anyone who reads your comment can see that you were so eager to talk down to someone about what they’re doing wrong that you completely ignored the fact that I clearly stated I was exploring basically any other career. Then when it became obvious that you had made an incorrect assumption, you rushed to switch your narrative to being about the “vibes” of my comment being defeatist - something you’re entirely making up in your own interpretation.
Own up to it dude. It’s embarrassing.

Lol so you think it’s defeatist to have a hard no for 1 specific position? There are so many other things to do in life than be a manager. If you think saying hard no to 1 position is equivalent to rejecting any change in strategy then idk what to tell you. You’re the one coming across as condescending by trying to mischaracterize my preference against being a manager as saying I won’t try anything different, and that’s kinda lame.

If I was willing to do that then I would have done so years ago, the calculus hasn’t really changed. If I’m going to do that then I might as well do literally anything else I don’t enjoy.

Yeah I’m a CS dropout and worked for startups for 10 years and now nobody is biting. Starting to think I need a career change because I can’t see things improving any time soon now that AI is out of the bag.

Raidz5 doesn’t exist, I assume you mean raid5? And you wouldn’t know, URE is sometimes silent, and because without parity during a rebuild you would be recalculating the parity bit and assumig every read on the remaining drives is successful. Except the URE rate for drives hasn’t gone down to match the increasing size of drives - so for a full 1x read of a large drive, you’re statistically at risk to get at least 1 URE.
In short, there is no integrity checking when rebuilding a single redundancy array after a drive failure, so just because a rebuild succeeds, doesn’t mean nothing was lost or corrupted. With double redundancy, you will still have single redundancy during a rebuild, so you would be able to detect URE and retry reads or raise an error to the user.
Some articles may make it overblown - you won’t lose your whole array, but any files stored in the block that had the URE during rebuild would be lost. And you might not know that it happened.

Raidz1 or z2? One of the reasons I went with z2 is because of the “raid5 is dead” thing, argument basically being, drives are so large that if 1 fails, you are statistically almost guaranteed to encounter a read error during the rebuild when you no longer have any redundancy, so double redundancy is a necessity nowadays.

I use haproxy just for simplicity, with the https fronted in tcp mode with a tcp request inspect delay and acls using req_ssl_sni allows switching between multiple backend based on hostname, though if you only had 1 backend server then it could just be a raw tcp proxy. I have my stuff split between 2 local boxes that are both connected to the reverse proxy using wg so this works well for me.

I use a wireguard tunnel as a reverse proxy and it does ssl passthrough with sni. Termination happens on my local box and the reverse proxy host doesn’t do any certs.

I went with rsync.net, grabbed a promo at some point and have been getting 1.6TB for $10/mo. They support a wide range of protocols (sshfs, sftp, rsync, borg, synology, guides for freenas and truenas), snapshots, idle alerts, geo redundancy for a fee. Been very happy with it so far. Had to retrieve some files once and had no issue.

I like generic lan-only rtsp poe cameras that are additionally blocked from accessing anything but the box that receives the streams.

I emailed them at support@greenfi.com with basically the message “I can’t login I get this message, what can I do to resolve this”, went back and forth a bunch, did all the annoying troubleshooting reinstalling the app, clearing app data, etc, sent screenshots of the message, assured I wasn’t using a VPN, sent all the details of my phone and rom version, had to poke them when they didn’t respond, got a random message of them saying “we see you were able to gain access” and I had to be like wtf no I didn’t?, told them it worked if I temporarily enabled play protect and said I would switch banks if I couldnt access check deposit which is mobile only, they replied with some justification why play protect is tripping it up, so I told them that I had no issues having play protect off with other financial apps like fidelity and chase bank, and finally got a response from a “supervisor” saying “i refreshed your settings” settings" and it started working.
Not sure if they just whitelisted my account or what, but maybe if enough people complain they will get tired of whitelisting everyone and change course.

I switched away from Ally bank for similar reasons, on my lineage’d pixel 5 with gapps, their app would always fail the login the first time then succeed the second time for no reason.
Then the bank I switched to, greenfi (coastal community bank) completely blocked login unless I had play protect (in Google play) enabled, which allows Google to uninstall any app from your phone without asking if they decide it’s a “security risk” or whatever - I can totally imaging them deciding that ReVanced / morphie / patched apps that block their ads to be a “security issue”. Luckily greenfi was more understanding and they did something that allowed me to log in again.
Classic, comes in hot being condescending based on incorrect assumptions then runs away when their self righteous shit isn’t being put up with.
