A lot of them do seem to do that. The credits for most games are ludicrously long and thank dozens of subcontracted companies.
I honestly don’t think your average AAA studio could even tell you how much AI slop is in their final product. It’s not none, and hasn’t been for years.

I think we’re approaching a point where games are going to be made like movies.
Teams assembled for one project, everyone does their bit, and are then discarded when they’re no longer needed.
Big publishers will probably have a pool of people they can push between projects depending on what’s needed. Ubisoft appear to do that, when you look at the credits in their games, there’s like 10 subsidiary studios involved. For smaller studios, you’ll probably be let go between games until you’re needed again. Maybe they’ll keep your information and rehire you because you did a good job of hard surface rigging or whatever last time. Maybe they hire an excited school-leaver to sloperate a clanker. Who knows.

The list of most valuable companies is highly concerning. It’s nearly all AI or AI-adjacent now.
The only ones that aren’t are oil and magic obesity pills.

I think it was Cory Doctorow that described it as a feedback loop, so the people who aren’t “all in” on AI get pushed out of the C-suite, in favour of those that are until the whole show is being run by people who want AI to do everything but absolutely no idea how to achieve that. It’s bluster all the way up, driven by a psychotic devotion to shareholders. Sack everyone, raise prices, the line must go up.
And because it’s all fuelled by picosecond trading algorithms, a company who’s line goes up 2% more than another company’s line ends up valued to a hundred times as much.
It’s no longer about being a healthy trading company, you have to show you’re doing everything possible to make everyone’s lives a fucking misery…

I do think it’s unfortunate that CDPR have hit their biggest successes with their open world games, because I don’t think their world design is up to much. Both this and Cyberpunk suffer from a main quest that screams “this is urgent” followed by opening up a map filled with icons.
And most of those icons are boring bullshit, but there’s enough good stuff out there that you’ll want to explore them anyway, only to be disappointed by a single troll fight or something 90% of the time rather than some interesting story.

Maybe, but I don’t think the Saudi rulers are lead particularly by belief. That’s just some physical world nonsense to keep the plebs in check.
What leads them is money, and the fear that all that oil money they’ve relied on for the last 100 years or so is going to run out at some point.
That’s why games like It Takes Two and Mass Effect will be culled. That’s why it’ll be wall-to-wall live-service war-slop and sports-slop until the day everyone with even a hint of creativity quits, and then it carries on anyway in a shambling AI form. And people will still lap it up.

I remember Google coming out and changing everything.
It had billions of pages instead of millions.
It returned results in seconds, and by seconds I mean 2-3, not 60.
Everything else became irrelevant overnight.
