The word “nothing” is the English word describing the concept of nothing. And I have to use the word to describe the concept. So yes, you are correct the word is itself “something”. So that is probably one point for “nothing” to not exist.
I have now consumed 3 cups of tea. And my head now hurts from thinking about nothing. I should never have stepped into this post.

If you can recognize “nothing” then “nothing” must be something right? So if nothing is a file, because /dev/null says so, then nothing MUST be something to be a file. And therefore /dev/null can’t be nothing.

I ain’t got the time to wait for Gentoo to finish compiling. I’m old and don’t have that many years left to live. And LFS, well madness lies on that path. I have seen it and barely escaped.
Debian is kind of cool again in a hipster sort of way if you aren’t running a bunch of servers. I do wonder why Slack has faded so. It was the Arch of it’s day.

Yeah, I’ve tried Tumbleweed several times and liked it, but the package management and a couple of other things about it just didn’t vibe with me. I do like the name of Tumbleweed. Tumbleweeds never stay still as long as the wind blows. The wanderlust is real.

Yeah, my quip is meant in the same vein. Every person is entitled to their own choice in the road to Hell they want to take.
In a more serious personal opinion, you can get nearly the same undercooked packages from SUSE Tumbleweed, with just with a bit more seasoning and testing. And if freshness matters with even better seasoning and testing Fedora can fill that role. And both take less effort and have less risk.
I stopped giggling and laughing about the flaming wreckage of my installs a decade ago because I’m just too old and lazy to fix things anymore.

What junk can you possibly fill multiple TB drives with? I have a mini desktop with a TB drive and it’s only got about 7.5 GB on it. And I think that’s a lot. My pathetic little home server is a measly 500GB and has just 37GB on it. I even have another computer that I use with 125GB drive. Barely 1/3 filled.

Me. Not worth my effort. I’ve reached a point where I just can’t be bothered to be 1337 anymore.
Everything that matters is backed up to 3 different places, my pathetic little repurposed laptop home server and 2 cloud services. And one of those is literally on the other side of the planet from me.
I sleep well. As much as the doctor prescribed medications and cpap machine allow for anyway.

I haven’t paid attention to Omarchy to be honest. So I went to their website to see and was trying to watch the video on their distro. When he opened a terminal and intermediately opened a tiled browser window with X loaded, I just noped right out of there.
You are correct about the unable to read, and it’s a good thing they can’t.

By the witnesses? Formal dueling had rules and rituals involving a number of people with ways to get out until the last moment. Informal dueling not so much. And on the spot fighting none at all.
Society was more responsible for the death of formal dueling than the law. Informal dueling and plain fighting were almost always considered murder.

I’m using Zen now. it took me a while while to get the hang of the UI. But once I did I found it to be very nice to have those spaces that I can organize for different tasks.

Don’t feel bad. I’ve been running some distro since Y2K was a fear. And I still often need to search commands. (Shhhhh! Don’t tell anyone but I have even used ChatGPT a few times also. To my secret shame). But I am wary of what I see and while I don’t always remember the proper syntax all the the time, I do know when the answer is right when I see it.
If anything, it shows that you are a person that is willing to get your hands dirty to fix your own problems before you start asking random people to solve your problem for you. You will become the master yet.
And Kudos to Ephera for stepping up and helping a fellow user!

That’s the refusal to learn. People really hate learning anything new these days. And that includes many here.
Still, there is hope. With the common idea of “App Stores” really taking hold with users, thanks to the ubiquity of cell phone ownership and Chromebooks, users are comfortable with a software manager that gets referred to as App Store. And distros are starting to act upon that by simply rename their software management software and adding a colorful friendly UI to it. It’s marketing.
There are 1000’s of programs available that can meet almost every “regular user’s” daily needs. What is lacking is a universal packaging format that is easy to use. Ubuntu has their “we dropped the ball” Snaps and Fedora pushes Flatpaks. AppImages also exist, but not to the extent as Flatpaks and are a bit more of a hassle to use than a Flatpak. And it appears that Flatpaks are currently leading as the universal software management race. If all distros were to agree to one package format, that would remove one of the biggest hurdles and kills the .exe argument. And that seems unlikely at this point in time. Even die hard Linux users will argue against it. But until at least the most common distros hop on that bus, Windows users will resist your KDE laptop.

Until people can buy a computer CHEAPLY and easily at Walmart with a distro preinstalled, Linux isn’t going to make a lot of headway very fast. They are too lazy to be bothered to download a distro, make a bootable iso, wipe and do a fresh install.
And yes, they are that lazy unless really pushed to do it.

You were lucky. What would have you done if you couldn’t prove you no longer had possession of the car? If they had ticketed the driver directly, none of that could have happened to you. There would have been nothing for you to prove.This is why the state I live in has had that law requiring ticketing the actual driver and not the car decades before traffic cameras were even a thing.
And since there are no self driving cars that can be commonly found on the roads today, that’s a silly idea. And IF that time ever comes, someone is still going to need to be liable for that self driving car as it goes down the road. That software is going to be so locked down it must follow all laws without exception. Because the company will hold the liability.

You what really works? Having a law on the books that plainly states the “the driver must be ticketed”. And NOT the vehicle. So unless they pull the car over and hand the ticket to whoever is driving, they can’t use cameras for that purpose.

As KDE user, Gnome 2 was the best Gnome has ever been, (Cinnamon is a good offspring of it though). I used the carp out of it. I cried and drank myself to sleep for days after Gnome 3 replaced it.
I have even bigger hopes for COSMIC. If DE any can run a black sword through Gnome 3, it will be COSMIC.

I use KDE, but Cinnamon is what Gnome should have been. Cinnamon has just enough customization to make a person happy but it’s not so overwhelming a KDE can be for beginners.
I do have high hopes for COSMIC after a few more iterations. They have something good cookin’ there.

Since I’ve been Windows free for several decades now, I will hard agree with you that running your favorite distro is the Way^tm^ But I like I said, I’m under no illusions that my old hardware has a life span. Look at the long game. Installing a Linux distro is great. But what happens when your GPU/CPU/SSD dies and you can’t afford or buy replacements?
They got more time and can afford to wait us out.
US auto makers have done such things before. For a few years, GM sold the Chevy Luv which was a rebadged Izuzu. Ford has done the same with Volkswagon and others.
