  As a Scandinavian maybe that’s part of the reason why I love our ID.4. 😋
  We bought a 4 year old ID.4, and I’m honestly astounded by how good the quality is, there are absolutely zero “sounds” that aren’t supposed to be there. And the handling is amazing, something it is also widely praised for.
  We bought the top ID.4 available here which is called ID 4 Pro Tech, it has absolutely all the extras available including 360° camera.

  The main criticism I’ve seen in reviews is that it only has 3 buttons for the windows instead of 4. So 1 button selects front or rear, and the 2 buttons are then used to control either left or right window. That saves a whopping 1 button! At the cost of being way more clumsy to operate. Personally that has also turned out to be 1 of my biggest complaints, not because it’s a big issue, but because it’s just so stupid IMO.

  Glad you found a car you and your wife liked, we are pretty spoiled with options here in Europe compared to many other markets.

• The secret to Denmark’s success is their high trust and sociability

  This is absolutely true, and that trust has been built over more than a century.
  It all goes hand in hand with good social services, free education, healthcare for all. These are not just 3 benefits that should be obvious to have for all countries, but the principles permeate all of society, and is possible because of trust, but is also a foundation for maintaining this trust in society and each other.
  Danes are no inherently better than people in other countries, but very few Danes are in a position where they have to hustle to get through the day.
  If the systems work and you are doing fine, you don’t need to cheat. Of course some people do it anyway, but for instance corruption is 100% not accepted here. Someone like Trump would never be possible to come into power here.
  Neither his psychopathy or corruption would be socially acceptable.
  Political representation yes, because we are a very liberal country, where only 2% of the vote is needed for a party to get representation, and that is a good thing, because it protects our democracy from the extremes to gain popularity from being oppressed and victimized. And the idiocy of the extreme is revealed for what it is before it becomes powerful.
  The Nazi party is actually legal in Denmark, as long as they work within the rules. They have even had their leader on TV for interviews, and everybody can see how stupid they are. Last I heard they were not much more than a couple of dozen members.

  This is true I’ve read articles about how the Chinese government is working on legal models to make AI “safe for children”.

  It’s ironic in these times of asymmetric warfare beating traditional war machinery at a fraction of the price.
  It’s kind of the same the Chinese is doing on AI. USA is building huge datacenters concentrated around the forecasts for less than a handful of AI companies. While China is building AI into everything, and are working on making AI work decentralized to be useful in way more task specific circumstances and way cheaper.

  Maybe the 2 can coexist? But I think the American approach is overkill, and a lot of people will lose a lot of money they invested in that shit.

  So I don’t think the competition from China is designed to be malicious or disruptive, it has grown out from a different set of circumstances and necessity, because USA has been denying China the necessary chips to perform well with the American approach. Making it near impossible for China to work with American companies especially suppliers. Which China did until American politicians ruined it.

  China is building AI for everybody to use everywhere. While USA is attempting to monopolize AI services within monolithic services controlled by a few gigantic companies.

  I think safety is also easier to implement with the Chinese model, that doesn’t attempt to create AGI or Strong AI as we used to call it. But is creating AI that works well for what it was designed for.

• The latency between what you see and when the picture is taken is mechanical, using the viewfinder on a SLR gives zero latency while using it, but when you press the trigger, there is a latency you will never see.
  With a high FPS screen for the viewfinder, the latency can easily be way below human perception.

  No SLR is the ones with the mirror. DSLR are digital with a mirror. And they are definitely not “budget”, they are the high end. Except today on a high end digital camera the mirror is not necessary as you can use the sensor for the viewfinder instead.

  There is no reason why there should be noticeable latency on a high end digital camera. In fact the response time can be even shorter than with DSLR that has a mechanical mirror.

• What? Why didn’t they do that a decade ago? DSLR is freaking useless with a digital camera. But apparently other brands still have them too? But why use DSLR when you can get a more exact image representation from the sensor? Seems like it’s based more on tradition than actual usefulness.

  Of course if you make an old retro film camera, the system is still useful. But my guess is that is a very small niche market. It’s inferior in every way and more expensive and time consuming.

  German brands alone are 13 out of 25. The only VW owned brand not on the list is Cupra/Seat, maybe because some of their models are made in China?

  18 models are European, one brand that has been squeezed out is Hyundai, which used to be a very popular brand, and also Volvo which is made in Sweden and has always been among the favorites here, and they definitely are on top of the EV development with a lot of Chinese help.

  With cars coming in from China, Japan and USA, European makers maintain 72% of the market here in Denmark. Where we have a 90% of new cars sold being EV.

  If the chain is as you suggest that the Chinese authorities hand over documentation for Chinese manufacturers to copy, that would be an issue for EU.
  I don’t believe things happened quite the way you suspect. But for instance Xiaomi when they developed the SU7 had European designers on it, and they chose to copy Porsche.
  But good design elements have a tendency to spread, and Xiaomi does not make a secret of where their inspiration came from.
  You don’t have to give the specs to Chinese authorities for that to happen. Every manufacturer can buy a European car, and tear it apart to see how every component is built.

  2 models beat Tesla model 3, which is a cheap crap car, and all 3 models beat VW ID.3 which is a very decent car, and they all beat the Chinese Zeekr which is a new darling in the market. In the list 13 models are German brands, which make German cars just beat 50%!!
  In fact Mercedes and BMW are the only luxury brands on the list!

  Notably Volvo and Polestar are out completely! And that’s significant because in Denmark we have always bought many cars from Sweden!
  It is also notable that the field is pretty narrow, so although Mercedes is a bit down the list, the sales are not that much behind.
  But in China the market is dominated by subsidized Chinese cars, in an exploding market, and in USA tariffs have nearly destroyed the market for cars made in Europe.
  So European car makers are not doing great internationally ATM. Not because of incompetence, but because of a very tough even hostile market for European cars.

  On the contrary I just saw a review the other day of the Mercedes ACL vs Zeeker. The Mercedes was way higher quality, and the assist systems actually work, contrary to Chinese cars, and the efficiency of the Mercedes was 20-25% higher!!
  Yes China can build some pretty attractive cars with decent specs, but don’t get fooled to think they are of similar quality to any label of German cars.

  2. Covid ( Hurting sales and production )
  3. Energy crisis in Europe imposed by Russia before they invaded Ukraine ( Increasing production cost )
  4. Increased competition from China ( lowering sales and profits )
  5. Brexit ( Disrupting supply chains, and decreasing sales to UK )
  6. Transition to EV ( Increasing cost of R&D and production due to more models makes production more expensive )
  7. Sanctions against Russia ( Loss of market and the value of investments in supplying the country )
  8. US Tariffs ( Preventing sales to USA )
  9. War in Iran ( Disrupting the economy and economic outlook, lowering car sales globally )

  All these issues have direct impact on all European car brands, VW is making EU best selling EV cars, and they too have problems.
  But yes the management for the car brand that makes the most energy efficient EV is incompetent.
