Yeh, agree. But for a lot of people they are the easiest option after Amazon/google/apple etc
Not everyone is techy enough to have means to pull components together and configure, And then put up with semi reliable solutions. People need to acknowledge this rather than downvote. It’s weird.

Not sure why you got downvoted. I use similar Mi boxes. I hate google but the tv has a throw away tv email. I would love to not have google involved.
I then have productivity launcher which i quite like. If i am wrong happy to be pointed in the right direction. generally use stremio/jelly/smartube

You are not wrong. It is a social media and TBF the term has been poisoned by many platforms. I think just like drinks there are healthier options. Healthier online community spaces and I’d like to think this place is one of them.
It is an addiction that takes steps of lesser. The place you visit. How long you stay there are steps of management.

Ordinary people now spend their lives promoting investments they barely understand, products that do not work, and political claims they have never examined. Many earn nothing. They are unpaid distributors for someone farther up the pyramid. The consumer, salesman, and product have collapsed into the same exhausted person.
Until everyone looks at their phone/app/online usage and questions how they are being ‘used’ it will still continue to drag along like a zombie. I regullay stop and ask whose tail i am wagging.

It used to be so much fun mooching around and stumbling on things, like a site covered in rainbows that told you about a the best walks on a local mountain and then had a random ice cream recipe and some happy person taking a silly photo of themselves, followed by a review of their fav spoon and some instructions on how to fix a vacuum.

I feel like there has been waves of losses.
- Web 2.0 upgrades made everyone feel like they had to have a shiny polished site. We lost a lot of fun amateurs.
Once apps started getting pushed websites started to get abandoned/empty. everything from shopping to small games. I shouldn’t need an app for the coffee shop.
Bots and bad search operators made looking and finding a chore.
Insta killed blogs, suddenly everyone wanted a insta or YT brand rather than a blog/rss
Everything became sponsored =- say i wanted to find out how to polish my boots, the first 3 pages and everything everywhere suddenly tries to sell me boots.
This is why i no longer enjoy the internet. I know i sound old man yelling at cloud.

They do. Ironically a lot of users criticise particular group of people of users being in the grip of sky etc.
I know the word addiction isn’t quite right but YT is still a social media.

Interesting its took an actual physical object to invoke to fear, so far its local groups words, that gets ignored for the bag of cash. Looks like symbolic objects may speak louder than words.
I know its a tactic that has been used in the past by clans, its horrible but it is a tactic.
