Set up profiles: one for your day-to-day activities and one for your proprietary apps and GMS. I also have one profile for all things Musk and one for WhatsApp.
When it comes to apps on your main profile, you should keep it as Google-free as possible.
Same with your home screen. It’s supposed to be as useful and not provide access to every app you have installed (another operating system does this).

Keep in mind they’re more likely to search for alternatives when this will be in force. We already have a federated equivalent for every platform there exists.
So if this passes we should start pushing Fediverse to masses by every means possible.

Please don’t expose your services to the internet directly. Use something like Tailscale/Headscale/whatever mesh VPN is relevant now. It’ll always be 100 times better than this and you wouldn’t worry about Authelia, f2b and CrowdSec (though updating your services and server(s) is always worth it).

When I was in Scotland, I purposely brought an old iPhone that was passed down to me with an EU account to see if Apple will show this prompt in Settings. Nothing ever appeared in the Settings, only the Apple prompt urging you to set up Apple Pay.
Interestingly, when I signed in to Instagram account I only use for our class group chats (to which I rarely write messages because of CC1.0 in force) and had my VPN set to London, no age verification prompt ever appeared. Tbh it was before the Meta settlement, but still.
So yeah, it’s overblown to high hell.

I was outside the EU in Scotland. I had the fortune of being privileged enough for the UK Border force to divert us to the ePassport gates so that the only thing I had to show was just my passport and look at the camera.
Same in Thailand, but there we had to go through manned passport control and they also asked for my fingerprints and my passport but they didn’t searched my personal belongings.
In Schengen they don’t even check what you have with you, unless you don’t look white enough and don’t know wtf you’re doing here.

The data live on your eID, which is basically a Yubikey except you can’t save whatever you want on it.

Some countries in the EU like Slovakia also allow you to use passkeys that basically act as supplement to using physical ID card, so that you can use something better like Yubikeys or save it to your password manager.

I’ll just preload Mullvad DNS server (the max one) on my child’s phone when I’ll have one.
Of course it’ll be the cheapest used supported Pixel with Graphene with blocking sandboxed GMS install and only with an F-Droid client as the only source of install.
And of course he’ll get it when (s)he’ll be 15. Until then, a 15-yo laptop also with DNS level restrictions with way too locked down NixOS install must suffice.
Just keep your main profile from GMS and GMS-dependent apps.
