Our Dr office does that as well. We have a call about your upcoming appointment, can you provide details to confirm it’s you. They don’t give appointment time, what office it is, patient name nothing. Even if you trust it legit if you or your partner or kid both have upcoming appointments you have no idea which it’s for.
We just hang up and call to figure out which it was.

I’m not. I’ve donated to Mozilla before but I won’t ever again if this is how they’re choosing to spend their money.

I had an old electronics kit as a kid that you could use the earphone as microphone. Quality was shit but it works.

They probably buy commercial/display TVs which don’t have that garbage.

Also depending on location cost of living varies widely. That’s a really low salary for somewhere as expensive as LA.

Well we can at least thank them for a big part of the open source movement.

I should really make a dd image of my card for the Pi I use for all my switch serial connections.

My WAN connection would just randomly start losing packets and would not recover, not full disconnect just lots of retries. Didn’t impact LAN just WAN. Unplugged the cable or disabling then re-enabling the interface would fix it for a coupe of days to a week then it would come back.
Time consuming to diagnose as switching cables, ports, etc would require waiting days to see if it fixed it.
Eventually had the ISP come out and swap the fiber media converter and fiber integrity. But again it came back.
After several weeks I stumbled on a FreeBDS bug that was exactly my issue…I was running OpnSense and my gateway had I225s. Applied the scripts and it worked.

And to me the least fun. Programming is the fun part, everything else is stuff I have to deal with to do the fun part.

For me it was trying to interpret vague business requirements. But I was a designer / coder. I tried to insulate the other programmers from that nonsense.

on OPNSense Reverse Proxies and Giving Internal Services Domain Names? in c/selfhosted@lemmy.world · 9 Aug 2026
If this is for internal only you can setup OpnSense to do DNS records either through static IPs or add hostnames to the DNS records via DHCP. If you want this externally that’s a whole other ball of wax.
Neither require you to purchase a domain name. Just use whatever you want .internal While you can use other things like .lan, .internal is the only one that is actually reserved for LAN use.
*I’m pretty sure you can add firewall rules in OpnSense as well to redirect from port 80 or 443 to whatever port you’re actually using but that may cause more problems than it’s worth. If you can’t change the port in the app itself then, honestly just bookmark it with the actual port so you don’t have to remember it.

on Take-Two CEO Says We'll All Be Streaming Our Games In 3 Years in c/games@lemmy.world · 9 Aug 2026
That’s mainly because upload speed is capped much lower than download speed. That’s reversed if you’re streaming from a service though. Still a shit idea either way, hell the streaming services of several years went under in what a year or two.
