• The case mentioned here (in the beginning) is a husband manually using the camera of their robot vacuum to catch her cheating on him and using the recording as evidence in court (and subsequently have it used against him for unlawful recording). This can happen with your valetudo vacuum (assuming it has a camera) too, since it’s just user based behavior.

• I mean, we also have a lot of “papers please” in real life that no one has an issue with and actually serves a useful purpose. So the idea of extending this to the internet is logical and not necessarily a bad thing. It can actually provide something good. HOWEVER implemention is absolute key here, because it’s easy to over reach and collect (and store) way more tha! actually required for simple age verification. Since current tendency among politicians (in all nations) unfortunately leans heavily towards over reaching, as usual we can’t have proper things because the douchebags want to ruin it.

• You went to a shit school then. Mine taught critical thinking, problem solving and working as a group to achieve a common goal. It also highly encouraged independent extracurricular activities with all sorts of clubs/teams that got school funding to finance their work. If you wanted it to be, you had a giant playground for academically inclined people experimenting and wanting to learn.

  What if i have no control over who manages it? I have two, one is government managed and mandatory, the other is part of my salary (and mandatory) and who manages my company paid pension is decided by my employer. I have no control of either aside from general risk profile and high level market groups on my company paid pension (e.g. “tech” or “renewable energy”).

• I recently had to install MS authenticator on my work phone, to do so I needed to use the code from MS authenticator. To bypass that I needed to log on to MS to change access option, which wanted the code from MS authenticator to log in.

  Both in my case, as there are both the government pension fund that is mandatory and the one used by my employer which uses one of the large primary pension institutions in my country.

  Is it a bit weird that I don’t just manage all my pensions myself? Yes, a bit. But it’s how its done in my country and it has some tax benefits compared to getting the money in hand and investing myself.

  So, are you personally on the hook here because the company managing your pension fund is holding stocks in LG? Because that technically makes you a shareholder as it was bought with your money, right?

  Edit: not sure why I get downvoted, this is a legitimate concern/nuance to the debate. The managing company doesn’t own these stocks so they’re not the shareholders, that’s the people whose money they are managing, but these people are not directly in control of the funds. Who is the liable party in this?

  That may be true for you, but it’s far from universally true. I have changed jobs several times (maintaining my industry) without even moving or uprooting anything for my family. I would wager most actually have viable alternative options without moving.

• That’s not rayfish handling that but the cloudflare DDNS you’re using that handles that. So yes, self hosted WG server handles that just as fast.

  If you’re talking client-side, it will reconnect as fast as whatever internet connection you’re switching between allows it. For me it’s something like 3-5 seconds from disconnect to reconnect.

• Neither has a wireguard tunnel into your home network, you host the WG server on your own computer (or router even, that’s what I do) and just point your clients to that using either static IP if you have it or a DDNS service like the cloudflare you’re using if you have a dynamic IP.

• If by “pinky promises” you mean contractually binding letters of intent, then yes. This is standard procedure in any manufacturing industry when dealing with orders of massive quantities, because it normally also requires investment from the manufacturer in equipment which they don’t make on non-binding "pinky promises).

• FWIW this monitoring is only during the written exams (relies on installation of a specific software, that you can just remove again), and it’s the school doing the monitoring not the government.

  Edit: they also encourage schools to give pupils better conditions and more time for making written assignment at school where there can be both help and supervision, instead of at home.
