I still use PIA, but only for a couple of things running in containers. I use wireguard as my private vpn for my own services

on [Rec] The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan Review in c/anime@ani.social · 14 Sep 2026
I really enjoyed this one too, I think it’s an essential watch for Haruhi fans, or more specifically, Nagato Yuki fans, but not really for anyone else.
yes it does finish a bit weakly and on a mild cliffhanger because, as is unfortunately common, it’s only a partial adaptation roughly covering the events from 5 volumes of a 10 volume series. so there’s a fair bit more to read if you want to continue it but they have cut out a lot of extra fluff and a bit of bloat from the manga. they did a fairly good job streamlining the manga into a 16 episode series. a full 2-cour would have been too long and drawn out, a standard 12eps would have been too short to cover both the light hearted SOL rom-com fluff and the more serious arc they adapted very well that crosses it into the main Haruhi universe.

on Any external NPU that can be hooked to a proxmox miniPC? in c/selfhosted@lemmy.world · 9 Sep 2026
if all you need is a tiny NPU for things like image object identification or OCR the IGPU you already have will be better.
if you need slightly more than that, but not as much power as a large dedicated gpu, then you would have to look at a newer mini-pc with a more modern chip.
I do immich face/object detection and Birdnet audio analysis on the igpu of an intel 14600 and it’s fine, tiny amount of usage and plenty fast. my other node has a core ultra 235 and the igpu is faster than the on-chip npu in every regard, the npu is also a bit harder to actually get working and put to use.

the fact that they wont just put a steering wheel on it and call it a model 2 tells me this is an investment scam.

I know about the old command names, and I know they could fix it but the kernel and core explorer code is such a mess these days nobody dares change things that old. it’s one of the reasons I think windows will never really get better, they dont have the balls to clean-slate it and start again, and if they did, it would be even more broken because they cant test everything.
one of my favourite apps is the old dialer.exe which is still there, sadly soundrec.exe was removed in w10, if you dig deep enough you can get a windows 3.1 file select window to show with the classic folder and drive icons intact.

I’m on a windows 11 pc at work, and that colour picker was the ancient windows 95 colour picker. no dark theme, no fancy glass, just the old school win9x colour picker.

I run two synchonised Adguard instances on two different devices as DNS servers for the house (and for my work PC via vpn). on top of that I run local ad blockers on top of that. I dont care that my DNS ping times are a few ms longer. I dont want to be pestered, tracked, solicited or interrupted.
I cant stand the barrage of ads, especially on mobile websites, like its at the point where you want to read an article and you get two lines of text and the entire rest of the screen is ads you have to navigate.

The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan
it’s generally a 6/10 spin-off rom-com, but with one solid 10/10 arc that makes it all worth it that ties it in with the main series and movie so well I’d consider it an essential must-watch for Haruhi fans.
Also, this version of Yuki is just adorable.
My plan is to jump ship when my plan expires in a couple of months. I only have indexers going though it these days as 99% of my “data sourcing” is done via Usenet over SSL and the VPN isn’t technically required in that case.
