on Microsoft patent describes in-game advertising triggered by boss fights, loading screens, and cutscenes in c/games@lemmy.world · 4d ago
I think it’s just the fall of the industry as we know it. I don’t think gaming is going away anytime soon. But I do think we are about to see a very different industry in a few years. It probably won’t look like it ever really has before. A massive indie space, with sparse few AAA titles.

There is literally a Gamecube controller for Switch 2. Out of all the controllers from that generation, the GC is the only one that still has a modern presence. That controller still rocks.

That is factually incorrect. At the time it released, only the PS2 and Dreamcast were out and the Gamecube is significantly more powerful than a PS2 or Dreamcast. The Xbox didn’t release until a year later. So actually at release the Gamecube was the most powerful console on the market. And I would personally take a GC controller over a dualshock or og Xbox controller any day.

on Happy 25th Birthday to the Nintendo GameCube! in c/games@lemmy.world · 15 Sep 2026
I’d like to highlight the Gameboy player as well as the ability to connect a GBA to it for certain games. Nintendo at this time was really trying out a lot of interesting and unique ideas.
There are so many great games on it, and it was the birthplace of several fantastic series that are still going strong today. Some of my favorite games for the system include: Pikmin 1 and 2, Zelda WW and TP, Super Mario Sunshine, Kirby Air Rider, Luigi’s Mansion, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Animal Crossing, Starfox Adventures and Assault, Star Wars Rogue Leader and Rebel Strike, Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2, and finally Soul Calibur 2. What an absolute fucking banger of a system.

on PlayStation Ditched Hideo Kojima’s ‘Physint’ on Budget Concerns, Missed Deadlines in c/games@lemmy.world · 14 Sep 2026
Right, but it’s not just a spreadsheet descision. Kojima’s name carries immense weight and is one of the biggest in the industry. Just having him attached to your brand sells systems. The last time a company backstabbed him like this, they spent a decade making nothing but Pachinko and sports games.
Sony cutting him out is gonna be a lot more damaging to them than breaking even on a niche project. And let’s not forget that Physint won’t be nearly as niche as Death Stranding. It’s his return to the genre that made him famous.

That might have contributed, but from what I have seen it basically broke even from it’s sales. If they haven’t lost money, this descision makes no sense. Kojima is basically Playstation royalty and his name carries so much weight in the industry. Especially since they were championing Physint as his triumphant return to the action espionage genre. I’ve never played one of his games and even I knew immediately this was a collosal fuck up on their part.

on Sony lawyers argue that nobody is stupid enough to believe they actually own digital games, because then only one person could buy GTA 6 in c/technology@lemmy.world · 1 Sep 2026
There’s a reason everyone says they’re going to purchase a copy of a game. No one ever thinks they are buying the master and suddenly owns the IP. Everyone at Sony has rocks for brains.

on Fired Rockstar devs don’t want you to boycott GTA 6 but ask for support - Dexerto in c/games@lemmy.world · 19 Aug 2026
To be completely fair, I wouldn’t want to work on a project for like 5+ years and have no one see it either. But regardless of how many people join in on this boycott, the game is already a success. Plenty of people will see their work. So I say, boycott away. I guess we can’t exactly say the same about Marathon though.

I hope they win their lawsuit. But I am certainly boycotting this game and I encourage everyone else to do so as well. Rockstar has become the thing they used to satirize. Of course this game is going to be massively successful. But the more we can cut out of their sales, the better the whole industry will be. I mean shit, these assholes are actually trying to have you pay for a Netflix subscription just to watch their advertising of this trash. And that’s on top of a $100 price tag for the full game.
$100 for a revokable license is straight filth. Digital ownership is important, but as a physical collector, not even having the option to buy physical is the easiest pass I will ever take. Especially for a series that has not had any significant innovation in two decades.
Rockstar is a disgusting company. I wish everyone would see them for the filth they are rather than blindly guzzling GTA VI hype. More than ever in their history, their game deserves to fail. But unfortunately, too many people will hold their nose and ensure it’s a giant success.
