Funny, you’d expect this kind of thing to only be considered “a hit” if interest lasts more than a month, but gotta keep that bubble rolling, eh?

The problem was never about it “killing humanity fast enough”, but destroying the fucking planet, which is happening. We’ve had, what, 4 consecutive years of record high temperatures across the globe? These aren’t problems that happen in the span of a week, they’re slow cooking and will have a long lasting impact everywhere.

I guess by “didn’t get swept up” the author meant these companies didn’t go all-in like western studios, because all 3 have their portion of f2p mobile crap, with Konami being the worst offender with, PES Mobile, eFootball and others.
I suppose another big difference is shareholder expectation. In the US, if you don’t grow every quarter, you’re dead.

My worry was less with servers and more with interest, much like how some torrents are dead because there are zero seeds. I suppose the author of projects might remain as the sole seed for a longer period than the mirror seeds, but there are many that can be abandoned by the single dev for whatever reason

I bet part of that is to avoid paying out the ai slop shit channels that they have enabled and welcomed, it’s probably trivial for most of them to pump so much slop that they can reach those numbers in a month.

The market can stay irrational, yadda yadda. Also, Nvidia and Microsoft know they’re the major pillars of the bubble (M$ being the single largest backer of OpenAI) ones that have the most to lose, so they have to keep the illusion going to keep their stocks from nosediving and, more importantly, to keep lawyers and prosecutors off their backs.

Yeah, been hearing that shit since OnLive. 15 years later and cloud gaming is still niche. Throw that prediction together with “we’ll have super AI by 2030”. Neither Nvidia’s Geforce NOW or Xbox Cloud Gaming have open financial reports, being thrown together under other umbrellas. Google didn’t have the foresight to see that cloud gaming wasn’t “the next big thing”, but at least it was a project that surprised no one when they announced it was being killed.
The only reason to think “we’ll all be streaming games” in 3 years is because nobody will be able to buy electronics due to AI shitting the RAM market. The more likely result is more people making do with what they have and less games aiming for 300GB install size and 16GB minimum VRAM
