on Winamp will be reborn in 2027 to take on streaming in c/technology@lemmy.world · 2d ago
Yeah, I loved winamp back in the day, but it’s been a quarter of a century and now it’s primary purpose (the ability to play mp3’s) is no longer it’s primary purpose. If I’m looking for another music player, it’s primary purpose needs to be playing music files, not trying to convince me to sign up for another shitty service.

Hand grenades, at 5 paces lol.
Edit: yeah, there’d be injuries all around but very low skill.

It could just be me, but I see no shame at all in declining a duel. Or are we going to go back to when the challenged get to choose the weapon and location? Naked, with whips, to the death would likely make most people trained with a firearm question it. I’m not sure how popular whips are, but I wouldnt consider myself completely inept with them and could probably tag their twig and berries pretty early on in the fight.

Man I eventually stopped fighting that hurdle and just changed the login screen to say “Broken-ass auth” so I remember that one is different. I’m the only person using it at my house and recently went back to a car with a CD player and USB port for infotainment (such a refreshing change after a decade and a half of screens in my face) so I haven’t bothered to go back to fix it.

on Norway considers ban on camera-enabled wearable 'pervert glasses' | TechCrunch in c/europe@feddit.org · 3 Sep 2026
I think it is intended more for the relatively hidden cameras on some glasses. A body cam (at least currently) looks pretty obviously like a recording device, whereas some of the perv goggles can hide the lense pretty well.

I’m in! As long as I don’t have to get rid of my psx, PSP, ps2, ps3, and ps4. I promise not to give them another dime, or use any of their shitty online services… Though to be honest I started boycotting them about the time the first Destiny expansion was launched.

Yeah, sadly I don’t think it will either, I’m just hoping the jury decides the precedent they truly want to set.

The issue I’m seeing with the whole case is they siezed his phone, they kept his phone, the seizure of his property happened successfully. A person later entered something they believed would open it but instead it wiped it. The end user didn’t wipe it, and didn’t lie to the agents of the state because a duress PIN is still a PIN, I’m willing to wager they didn’t specify that they wanted his ‘unlock PIN’ and instead just asked him for a PIN (personal identification number), which he gave.

on Remote work benefits are much bigger than a paycheck in c/technology@lemmy.world · 20 Aug 2026
I had to RTO to an empty building, after a year and a half or two, two more people moved into the building. All I can think is ‘why must I sit in traffic for an hour everyday to be 80 miles away from my coworkers?’… Then the mortgage comes due and I remember why I deal with the traffic and remember how nice it is not really being contactable after hours (computer stays in the office). I gave way too many free hours away just because I was already in the home office while I ate breakfast or hung out during lunch just because.

on Microsoft is removing a legacy Windows feature, WMIC, that has been around for 25 years in c/technology@lemmy.world · 17 Aug 2026
WMIC allows an amazing amount of control for admins that know what they are doing. One of my favorite uses was back when I worked helpdesk, users would exit Lync and be unreachable, well WMIC can allow an admin to open that app back up in the users session and then they are suddenly reachable again.
Some people use the old psexec, others have been using WMIC since before powershell even existed.

That’s what I would go with if I was inclined. Create a volume the size of the drive and add a hidden volume with a different password within like we’ve been doing for years (decades at this point maybe almost).
I’d be cautious of keeping photos of your daughter on your phone with this administration.
