I’d agree with you if you mean that what has been marketed as AI to us is inherently bad. That said the word AI has been misused so much that is basically has no meaning. I’ve known researchers who have used things that can be called AI for really important research and it could run on a high end computer from 10 years ago. The externalities of that are quite minimal to what we gain. We really need to find language to discuss AI where when we talk about Big AI we’re not also dragging the proven, and efficient models which are nearly AI but not quite into the discussion.

My dude anything is possible when you gatekeep information. You’re defending making child sexual abuse material (SCAM).
This is what the entire case was sort of about, and also explicitly not about. Does it harm children and the answer was the first amendment. That’s not really an answer. Honestly this isn’t a problem for the courts to figure out it’s a legislative problem and good luck with that.
My personal opinion, no one should be able to create any sexualized content of children regardless of whether or not it’s AI generated, authentic CSAM, hand drawn art, or anything else. Children should not be sexualized, I can’t believe this is up for debate.

Hard drives are so expensive I’m considering buying a 2U chassis and using old drives to expand my NAS as opposed to replacing small drives with larger ones. The only thing holding me back is the effort and the noise.

Actually they can sue you. Anyone can sue anyone else over anything. It’s whether the lawsuit or not has any merits and will be carried on is what decides that. If you have a lot of money and want to fuck over a poor person sue them for nothing. The poors still have to spend all their money defending themselves against nothing or else they’re in contempt of court and you get the satisfaction of destroying them financially forever. No crime, but the poors still get punished.

Thinking about Jupiter sexually always made me uncomfortable. Zeus does some really bad things.
Second hand is different from pirating because the royalties have been paid. When it’s sold to the second owner the status of having paid the royalties passes with it. With physical media the disk, tape, or reel and the license to use it privately are the same thing. Otherwise we’d need a system to keep track of who owns every disk, tape, or reel, and who owns the license to each and that’s a sure fire way to get everyone to begin pirating.
