• I will never not recommend Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels, I would suggest starting with the Tiffany Aching series, they’re YA but might give you the vibe you want. Alternatively, any of the novels set in Unseen University (or focused around the wizards) might also be worth a look. I wouldn’t recommend starting with the Light Fantastic or the Colour of Magic though, just because they’re early books and he hadn’t got his writing style down yet. Maybe Unseen Academicals or Equal Rites?

  Other book suggestions:

  • Redemption of Althalus by David and Leigh Eddings (I have been informed the authors are child abusers, read if you want)
  • Stargods trilogy by Irene Radford
  • Tide Lords series by Jennifer Fallon
  • Bitterbynde trilogy by Cecilia Dart-Thornton
