• Yeah, and this is how I know you never worked in the random standard production to miss the humor. Its a picture of a tech bro type in a clearly decommissioned closet stressed out about what’s going on, a common thing and always funny. I can just picture the tech on site in the next room replacing a fan on a much less “cool” looking appliance while that guy stresses out on a conference call with the “stakeholders” on his coax nest.

  Now that being said I have worked on places still using coax (might still be) and tape libraries, and all sorts of museum pieces well after you would think they would. But I can tell that picture is after decommission since it is clean. If that was in use it would be filthy and filled with so many things that may or may not be important/in use. Fans all clogged running at max rpm, and the smell… I can still smell it now. But then again I was the guy they called to fix shit after the local (often tech bro) it guy gives up so I think I often saw the worst places.

• The issue is that they don’t care, they sell the data to others and they get to spin it while doing it. Its not selling data (that you are broke) to an advertiser, its the idea of that advertiser falling behind if they don’t buy your data (that you are broke).

• Possible that they are piggy backing on other hidden networks. I remember there was a whole thing with Samsung years ago with their stuff doing something like that, and there are a few patents around that propose hidden networks from the “internet of things” days.

  I just don’t want to even truck with this nonsense, where the fuck is the line before we just stop using these things? I know there must not be a line, since we are talking about circumventing our shit spying on us like it is normal.

• Cool, yet my point on gaming still stands. Most places I installed screens at had us (mostly done by the roll up software) turn the res down (so people can read it). You can use 4k I am sure, knock yourself out, but we are in crazy land where your need to have 4k has left us all in a nightmare of shit performance and fake frames.

  “Such a L take” is funny from the people with more money then sense who always seem to revert to a “get gud” defense when confronted with the idea that maybe spending more is not always a good idea.

• The scheme requires an every increasing amount of new “investment” or the whole thing collapses. Is it more then a ponzi scheme? Sure, most normal schemes can’t do what these companies can do but at the end of the day the scheme is still very much a ponzi structure.

  These (non hardware) companies are not relying on fake revenue, they all post massive losses in AI on the regular and yet like some sort of massive lost cost fallacy the markets still keep investing. Maybe next quarter (insert AI) will start making money, but more likely it will all pop before. And the hardware companies making money hand over fist? They are getting bodied on the market (see the South Korean situation).

  None of this is even unexpected or seen as odd anymore, the financial systems, markets, private equity and most funds seem to just treat the situation as normal. I have seen nothing but once in a lifetime financial fuckups every few years since I was in high school, and almost every one is in the end is just some ponzi style scheme that was always doomed to collapse.
