In concept nothing. But do you also recognize a legitimate business model of selling multiple products at different price points, spaced out more than the different cost of production?
Yes of course, but if the spacing is too much then stuff like this starts to happen.
is it your argument that they should be able to purchase the $20 product, add $10 of parts, and either use it or sell it as the $200 product?
Yes, once I buy something it’s mine to do with as I want. Obviously warranty may be void in some cases, but otherwise I own it.
If the market exists that is willing to buy it as a $200 product then Raspberry Pi should sell them for that price, their costs would be much lower than someone who buys a Pi at retail, buys new RAM chips, spends the time to desolder and solder on the new RAM chips, market their ‘product’, and deal with shipping it. If the knockoff is $200 and the same-spec legitimate Pi with warranty is $200, the knockoff won’t be around for long.

There’s a lot of good options, but for media you probably just want an x86 mini PC since they are way cheaper. Intel N100 based, or similar.

Nahh, their reasoning is BS IMO. It’s not an iPhone or something it’s a hobby product for tinkering with.

I’ve got my own domain on Zoho mail, not sure if it’s still free for custom domains.
But just for fun I might set up Stalwart with an SMTP relay through SMTP2GO or similar.

They do talk a lot about security and their WAF on their home page, it might be secondary but they mention it a lot.

I don’t believe there are any logs being transferred, just the abusive IPs are shared with the central DB.
So if an IP starts hitting a ton of rules (like .env access, repeated 403s, 404s, 429s, etc… Or specific AppSec rules) then that IP is blocked and sent to their central DB where it’s pushed out to everyone running crowdsec.
On my setup crowdsec has been more effective than cloudflare at stopping scanners and bots from overloading things, cloudflare just lets basically everything through so I stopped using it.
That said I’m curious if you remember the source of the real world tests, because I’d love to see what’s actually better.

Pangolin would work, it’s still wireguard underneath but with a webUI to set up things and simplify it. It’s fairly easy to install on your server with their docker compose examples.

What does these “tunnels” actually add?
Ease of deployment / time savings generally. You can certainly do it yourself with wireguard and a reverse proxy.

Self hosted alternative is buying a static IP from your ISP I suppose. Mine is an extra $5/mo which is eh, but I’m not paying for a VPS.

Performance on opnsense is fine for anything you’ll be doing at home, so I wouldn’t factor that into your choice.
Features on opnsense are probably better, just due to all the packages you can install.
Do you prefer being 100% in a CLI all the time? If not I’d say opnsense, the GUI certainly makes things a lot easier when you’re not fully familiar with something and spending every day interacting with it.

For DNS? It’s an alternative for that, but not for the huge amount of other services Cloudflare provides.
But in this case they are buying new Pis and modifying them, so their costs have to be higher than the official ones. It’s just weird to me that there is any market for that at all.
