  Also, even in that case, are you telling me the people who want that content removed, you know, the loud people who made a fuss about it and pressured the aforementioned business people, specifically don’t want it on nexusmods?

  You can ignore a point by nitpicking it all you want, I will even grant your nitpick, it doesn’t make nexusmods less bad than they already were in my mind, if anything that’s worse because we can’t even expect consistent bias, just outright mercenary behaviour, either way not what I want from a hosting service.

  Let’s see you address the rest of the post, if you would, I wrote a hell of a lot more which you have neglected.

  Ok, so you clearly are not familiar with what AO3 is.

  The point is: Mods, like fanfiction, or any other form of expression that is to be perused by others at their leisure (unlike social media interaction which is by its very nature meant to address an audience of strangers in a “digital town square” of sorts) are both pointless and wrong to regulate.

  The same exact argument of moral turpitude was the whole reason why american gay/lesbian erotica had to end with the characters dying to skirt censorship laws. Dismantling and demonising the institution of morality-based censorship is the only path to a place where no group is actively unable to express itself, and that includes groups we don’t like, because if it didn’t it would mean nothing.

  It’s moronic, and infantilising, to prevent adults from consuming content in the privacy of their own home, just because you or I find it immoral or distasteful, simple as.

  They were barred from publishing the mods to the farthest extent he people barring them were capable of. Thankfully they don’t own the entire internet.

  Are we talking about the same tools here? To be clear, I meant the tool of removing content from a site over political alignment, not tools as in “software tools.”

  And if your argument is “well right wingers used admin authority to remove left-aligned game mods from sites” my reply is where and when, because I have 0 memory of LGBT-friendly mods ever facing pushback form hosting sites at any point in my 25+ years of gaming and playing modded games.

  Institutions and pundits sure, but that was just as true of videogames as a whole so that’s not relevant here.

  What legal limits? Nexusmods to my knowledge is a US company; there is no law against depicting a non-inclusive world (such as in the case of the pride flag removal mod for spiderman), or even outright discrimination of any kind in media, nor are there laws against outright political speech that discriminates, so long as it’s only speech, and it is not a direct and actionable incitement to violence.

  Are we to assume that any site needs to adhere only to the freedoms that ALL countries would allow it, the narrowest subset possible, or are they to abide by the laws of the country where they are hosted and incorporated as a company? Because I will remind you that every single LGBT mod hosted on nexus is breaking laws in countries totaling a 4th of the human race, give or take.

• Lemmy is not a hosting site, it’s a forum, it’s fundamentally different.

  I disagree with plenty of ideas, but I also reject the notion that someone should be barred from publishing them, because that tool will inevitably be used against those same people when the pendulum swings.

  To wit, those mods didn’t stop existing, they were just hosted elsewhere, because a hosting site is not social media, it’s not a place of dialogue or community, it’s a utility, and thus fungible. Gatekeeping it accomplishes nothing.

• To me, it’s a mixture of things:

  1. I want my hosting sites to not be opinionated, think AO3. Is there shit on it that I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole? Yes. Is it fine? Also yes.

  Removing “bigoted mods” is just saying “we decide what you can download”, and I can make that determination for myself, as a grown ass adult.

  1. Their monetisation is shit, and they’re very heavyhanded about it

  2. Their user-facing behaviour is smug and condescending, they act like modding exists because of them and not the other way around.

  That, assuming all of them run around the clock at 1000 gallons maximum consumption rate, makes his contribution to total carbon emissions ~0.001%.

  Impressive for a single man, but not even close to me giving a fuck and not considering you hella weird, and probably simply envious, for caring this much.

  Also there are a total of 800 megayachts in the world, so even combined and running full tilt around the clock, all megayachts combined get to ~0.16% of global emissions with your 1000 gallons of fuel figure.

  So yeah, you can, in fact, stop spamming, and caring, about the megayachts.

  It’s really not a big fucking deal.

  All your objections are valid, however all of these factors only add noise to the equation.

  The Pareto distribution still observably happens in non-centralised, non-profit driven systems.

  It is a byproduct of unequal output, not market type, provided there is some sort of reward proportional to performance.

  I don’t think we should prescribe to the idea differences in skill are AS great as riches would imply.

  They are only in the beginning. Money has the ability to compound and, in the case of competitive, elastic markets, this is even more starkly visible.

  If I make more money one year due to higher fitness/better output, I have more revenue with similar expenses to my direct competitors, so I have more profit, I get to invest more, rinse, repeat, compounding my competitive advantage more-than-linearly.

  This however is just more visible in economics. In fact, I would argue it goes for any type of competitive environment; the fewer limiting factors on individual faculties the more obvious it is.

  Individual sports like tennis, swimming, running, or martial arts are usually dominated by a handful of individuals, who reach the peak and then get replaced as they get older, and new, stronger athletes join the competition (or sometimes if rulesets are modified to shake up the meta, but that would also change the parameters to determine fitness).

  The only scenario where this does not happen is where there is no running incentive, or only weak ones, to excel in a particular pursuit.

  Let’s focus on real issues, like the move to nuclear, or finding better ways to do metallurgy than exporting all of it to the third world where health and pollution regulations don’t apply, as if it’s not the same atmosphere we’re polluting, shall we?

  Luxury purchases only a handful of people can even afford is really the bottommost thing on the list, short of regulating how much you’re allowed to eat beans to reduce your methane output.

  If Gabe lived every single day of a year on one of his yachts and they ran the full 1000 gallons of fuel you claim (which I am taking in good faith) this would amount to 77,850 metric tons of CO2 produced. Which is indubitably an impressive amount, until you realise that 32.8 Billion tonnes have been released in the atmosphere in 2024.

  So yeah, I don’t give a toss about your weird fucking fixation.

  It is a lot of CO2, it’s still not even a drop in the bucket compared to what we need to actually address, it is off by 6 orders of magnitude, get a grip, he’d have to own 5000 of the damn things and run them all year round to even add up to 1% of global pollution.

• Ah, yeah, Radarr is a library-first kind of deal. You are supposed to add to it and then find the files.

  As someone else mentioned you can add collections, there is probably one for your specific interests. If not you do need to do it manually, or you have to manually copy the files then import an existing library and manually match them there.
