Please explain how remotely limiting the speed of a vehicle is useful and not dangerous.
The only “parental controls” you need are the keys.

Either way, the real question is: To what end? I don’t believe that Musk suddenly gives a shit about humanity

Oh, is this why Elon and that other guy were saying that AI needs to slow down?

on Why is Google still serving dodgy ads? in c/technology@lemmy.world · 14 Sep 2026
My view is that 15 years ago (maybe longer) “ads are the price you pay” was valid. They weren’t tracking everything you do… yet. They’ve gone too far and until they stop there’s no reason for you play by the rules either.

Just yesterday AI told my brother that a run of 4 in crib is actually 2 runs of 3. I made him pull out the Bicycle official card game book and look up the rules because I knew that was wrong.
Why even use it if you have to double check everything it says?

on Don’t Let Anyone Take Away Your Big Box of Cables - Jim Nielsen’s Blog in c/technology@lemmy.world · 10 Sep 2026
I have 2 boxes. One for current cables in use on new devices, and one for old stuff. Everything gets coiled and e-taped (over-undered even if it’s long enough)
I had to dig through the old one for a display cable and and an adapter just yesterday!

Any Linux distro with Plasma Bigscreen. My TV box is an old laptop I got for free from work running Cachy OS. I have a remote-sized keyboard/trackpad that I use to control it. I mostly just need the arrows, but the whole keyboard is there if I need to go in to the desktop OS.
I could use a recommendation for a big-screen ad-blocking YouTube app though.

Same. I just got a good deal on one pre-price increase (so an even better deal) in April.
Once I can get my hands on a Graphene capable phone I’m out on corporate OSes and hopefully this hardware will last through the AI bubble.

I use Plasma Big screen and have a remote sized keyboard with trackpad. The arrow keys are usually all you need, but the rest is there if you do need it.

Funny because I always blame that game for making me an inverted Y axis guy.

Hanna Montana is a character played by Miley Cyrus’ character in the show Hanna Montana.
I never watched it, but I remember people being real gross about her turning 18. ☹️

An MMO with no micro transactions: Clan Lord
It’s been around since the 90s, the original developer is now a farmer and gave control of the world to the players rather than selling to a larger company.
We could use an influx of newbies, just don’t be a turd.

Sweet. So why does it need to be done remotely? Why not a passcode?
