“AI is going to kill us all!” conjures up imagery of some Terminator robots vs humans shit. But like, look at data centers… It’s already in the process of killing us all. Why gun us down when it just poison our air/water, and cook us to death?
…also it would be more accurate to say we are killing us all, we’re just using a glorified spell-checker that’s wrong occasionally as the plastic shopping bag over our head.

When Trump had that Iranian girl’s school bombed, they were quick to blame it on an AI hallucination.
Another poster speculated that’s the point: they aren’t having it make tactical decisions, they’re building a scapegoat into the decision to commit war crimes.
Bomb a girl’s school at the command of an individual? Folks lower on the chain might disobey, civilians demand accountability… It’s messy.
Bomb a girl’s school at the command of AI? Ope, whoopsie, silly thing thought that was a terrorist training compound - that’s a bad AI! Bad!. Junior enlisted fruitlessly bitch about their replacement; civilians post an article warning about the dangers of AI… By Monday no one remembers.

…tbh, if the standard we’re holding it to is that it’s only gotta be better than the majority of human politicians, then we could have passed the torch to “AI” back in the 90s and just let Clippy run the country.
This comment is made in full acknowledgment that Clippy was shit. But compared to like Trump or one of his mini-Nazis? Yeah I’d vote Clippy in a heartbeat.
Same applies to the modernized steaming pile of excrement we’re calling “AI”. I’d trust ChatGPT with running our country over the current administration any day.
