One of the most influential games for me. Riven even more so if you decide to continue on. There’s just something special about the aesthetic like you mentioned.

I feel the same way. Lemmy is a powerlessness echo chamber a lot of the time. Good on ya for pushing back.

on DLSS 5 comes with a massive 50-60% performance hit, so I hope you like lower frame rates with your dose of AI image enhancement in c/games@lemmy.world · 2 Sep 2026
I don’t really get how frame generation works, but at what point are you extrapolating so much that it gets out of sync with the gameplay? Surely there’s a limit…

on Dev at id Software says Microsoft 'burned a lot of bridges' in the industry: 'They fundamentally don't understand art, they don't understand games' in c/gaming@beehaw.org · 10 Aug 2026
I don’t think the article said it was only a Microsoft problem.
You’re right though, AAA execs don’t understand the medium in the slightest.
I think so. It’s a lot deeper and bigger. It has some of the best environmental story telling around, and the aesthetic is a lot more refined. Myst is kind of eclectic and riven is more thought out. It really wants you to understand aspects of the place you’re in in order to solve the puzzles.
They both have the same style of physical/mechanical feeling puzzles with no inventory, which I’ve always loved about these games.
Myst 3 and 4 are pretty good too if you end up wanting more. Neither are on the level of the first two, but they’re good in their own ways.
