• Slightly relevant : in my language (french) there is a distinction between a formal and informal “you” (tu/vous). I didn’t know how to adress my in laws, so for several years I twisted sentences to avoid saying “you” altogether. Like I would say “do I make a coffee” or something like that instead of “do you want a coffee”.
