Where do all of these apologetics come from? Why are people so eager to leap to the defense of scammers and their adtech and fintech enablers? Why is there such an impulse to victim-blame?
I think it’s fear: in their hearts, people – especially techies – know that they, too, are vulnerable to these ripoffs, but they don’t want to admit it. They want to convince themselves that the person who got scammed made an easily avoidable mistake, and that they themselves will never make a similar mistake.

I was ready to jump ship after Google pushed manifest v2 extensions out of their webstore for good 2 weeks ago, but I decided to give uBlock Origin Lite a chance, and it’s surprisingly capable. So far I haven’t seen the difference between full fat uBO besides extra tools like being able to only disable Javascript on a page for example - that was a very neat feature I do miss. But adblocking-wise it’s doing just as well.

That’s why whenever I’ve upgraded PC I always tried to double or more than double the amount of RAM my last PC had. So this last upgrade I went from 16 GiB to 64 GiB. DDR4 though. I doubt I’ll be able to double it next time with these prices though.

👴 my first PC in the mid-90s had a 10mbit coaxial network card that my brother and I used for a 2 PC LAN connection, and let me tell ya - you wouldn’t want to handle that while the PC was turned on.
Although the zap was less hurtful than an electrical fence.Looking it up, it was most likely 10BASE5.

I couldn’t find anything in Danish media either just now, just that the treasure weighed around 18½ kilo. That’s the biggest silver treasure found in Denmark to date. Regarding compensation/reward, maybe it has to be properly evaluated first, or maybe they just want to keep it private. The person that found it has chosen to be anonymous as far as I can tell.

Despite the generous law there has still been people that did exactly that. But to be fair, around the early 1800s Denmark was broke as hell, no meaningul government, a sickly king, so a lot of things went wrong there. Including the British coming over to trash the Danish fleet just for funsies. And Danish forests being down to just 1-2% of its whole territory (but we’re back to over 20% now).

That’s something I wasn’t too knowledgeable on, but you’re right, it does seemingly goes against the agreement that EU and UK might’ve come to agree on. I haven’t read the fine print though, but it would look like Sweden might be breaking it.

It’s messed up, not to mention the “first past the post” system you have over there.
But wild to think that up to 1/3rd of the Brexit leave-voters might’ve died since 2016 according to some estimates. It really feels like a big middle finger as they descended into the dirt. -

I was of course joking. One of the main guys at Cockos that develops Reaper is Justin Frankel the man behind Gnutella, Winamp and Shoutcast and a few other fun projects, so I’d expect them to still be ahead for a little while.

The Guardian has really been trying to blow this story up. It’s not that big of a deal when it’s people from the middle east getting deported, but when it’s Britons?
It sucks for the UK that a majority of those that voted to leave the EU are probably already dead, but that’s democracy for you. -
