Which is why I brought up the Trolley Problem in the first place. Saying that there’s no scenario in which euthanasia can be considered is just like refusal to pull the lever in that neither decision is motivated by a desire to do good or be helpful, but only by a motivation to preserve one’s own moral standing and nothing else.

Not really sure why the guy that brought up the trolley problem decided to insist on five million.
Would it make it easier for you to answer if I said eight billion? What would you do? One person on one set of tracks, the entire rest of the population of Earth on the other. Do you pull the lever then?

Well, if he’s just in there for a broken leg and he’s conscious, I think I’d ask him to volunteer. Is there a reason we can only use his organs and not mine?
Your scenario seems overly complicated when field surgeries already exist, where medics frequently have to make life-or-death decisions already via triage.
What about you? How do you save the five million patients?

Five? It’s five million. There are five million people on the trolley tracks. The correct answer is to pull the lever and then run to try and save the one person on the other set of tracks. Any decent person would at least TRY to save everyone, even if they’ll fail.

Same as this year. I imagine it’ll be the same with the other countries (Iceland, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain) who boycotted this year. However, as self-congratulatory as this “BREAKING: no change from last time” headline seems, I do think it’s important to keep talking about the boycott at every excuse, since I feel like the UK might be persuaded to join in the boycott next year if the idea takes hold in the national discourse, and that would be significant.

ESA launched its first 50-50 joint science mission with China earlier this year. The SMILE spacecraft, built in China and launched by Europe’s Vega rocket, is studying the connection between the solar wind and Earth. The first ESA instrument to land on the Moon arrived on the lunar surface in 2024 aboard China’s Chang’e 6 mission.
Mundell said China has invited ESA to join more Chinese-led science missions. “That is something that we’re exploring,” she said.
The solar winds are changing, it seems.

So it appears to be a 1:1 straight remake, but with modern graphics, better sound and probably some improvements to the UI.
I’ll be honest though; I preferred how all the characters looked in the 3DS remaster. Oh well; I don’t have a Switch 2 anyway, so it’s not like I was gonna get this either way.

He said there is “a huge prize” in economic growth to be had by fixing the loss in trade and noted that since the UK voted to leave the EU in 2016, UK goods exports by tonnage have fallen 20.7 per cent. Export volumes to the EU have fallen 15.9 per cent, while exports to the rest of the world have fallen 37.2 per cent.
I’m not even sure how to make sense of that. If you had asked me, I would have assumed the main drop in export tonnage would have been to the EU. I suppose the most likely explanation is that buying from the UK must have become more expensive due to the loss of standardization in regulations and processes, and trade partners decided to buy those goods from elsewhere in the EU in order to keep the standardization. That’s just a guess though. And even with that explanation, I can’t figure how it wouldn’t hold at least as true for EU trade partners as for non-EU.

Voters are not being asked to decide just yet if they want to join the 27-member bloc – only whether they want their government to negotiate possible terms.

Methinks that the best way to open up dialogue about possible EU membership is to express a desire for “something more than the EEA”. Another good idea would be to talk to Greenland, Iceland, the UK and Norway about forming some sort of “advanced EEA” with heightened cooperation with the EU. The EU will be more likely to make attractive offers if the other side includes more countries.

My major concern is the USA interpreting Canadian accession to the EU as a hostile move by Europe to “encircle” the USA. The so-called “Donroe Doctrine” asserts that the entire New World is the USA’s turf and that it won’t tolerate anyone trying to make in-roads there. In Trump’s mind the USA already owns Venezuela, Cuba, Canada, Greenland, etc and any challenge to that ownership will be interpreted as an attack on American security.
Of course, the rest of the world only humors such a doctrine when the USA makes it worth their while. When the USA was willing to take on certain global responsibilities, that was worth giving them certain privileges. No responsibility = no privilege.
