Certainly a cool idea, and I hope it succeeds and turns out to be what it seems.
No price listed on their crowd fund page, so who can say what this might cost? Uses a Raspberry Pi Zero W for the brains and a STM32 for the cartridge board.

1000% they are. Since bumper stickers, etc. commonly stay on a vehicle until the elements disintegrate them (vehicle or bumper sticker), and because they’re often uniquely placed, they’re basically unique car tattoos.

Disagree. It was a marginal tax rate for income over $400k. There were relatively few millionaires back then, so with the current runaway class income divide, it would assuredly do something regarding modern multimillionaires and beyond.
The solution would have to be twofold: tax the wealthy properly and close the loopholes (like taxing unrealized gains).
Though in general, I’m not a huge fan of this solution, because it’s still pro-capitalism, but it would be a step in the right direction at the very least.

If the US would fix its tax system, such that the wealthy paid 90% after a certain amount again (as they did under Eisenhower) without all these loopholes, the wealthy wouldn’t be so dangerous.
They could easily be rendered toothless before even worrying about how much time they deserve behind bars (which is still a lot).

That’s the core problem. The wealthy capitalists both own and drive the development of ML right now. I agree that machine learning algorithms (AI) in a vacuum aren’t inherently a problem, but that’s just a hypothetical position versus the material reality we all face every day.
Maybe we’ll get global Socialism or Communism someday, but trying to convince people that AI is fundamentally good underneath it all is putting the cart before the horse; AI as it stands is a symbol of Capitalism and the problems it embodies.
Worry about the nuances of AI after you’ve dealt with the rot.

I think they might mean that Windows is ultimately a dead end. I agree that its far from dead, but Valve really got the ball rolling with Proton.
Now that there’s a bunch of bigger influencers “trying Linux” as a daily driver and often having a good experience, coupled with Windows/Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot every other month, I think we’re seeing a shift in people’s perception (at least regarding what their possible options are). That said, Linux still has a ways to go until it even breaks 10% desktop share, and I don’t think it will be a threat even to Apple until Linux hits 15%.

Is this some new money laundering thing? Are companies “buying in” to hobnob with other wealthy people? Is this just the latest Country Club or whatever?
I seriously don’t understand why all these companies are throwing money at a project that is almost assuredly going to “mismanage” it.

Certainly, but we’re not there (yet). Fretting about all the possible negative possibilities might feel like preparation, but your time would be better spent finding ways to protect our digital sovereignty/privacy, which is a good thing regardless of the market or political conditions.

I mean, we’re talking about a hobby project operating system, not people who support a different governing system (also, they were arrested and executed during another time in history when “radicals” and immigrants were particularly hated by those in power).
I appreciate the concern, but I don’t think those stories are really that analogous. Nobody in the government is currently worried that a bunch of programmers are stoking the fires of rebellion, though if they start trying to say that “Linux is the operating system of antifa,” then we might need to start worrying.

Regarding the hypothetical anti-Linux marketing, Linux is not that big of a market. It shows promising growth, but it’s not even 10% of the desktop market. Microsoft leads hand over fist, and Apple has its own giant cult.
I don’t see them spending much effort to scare/entice people away from Linux, because they’re not really a threat. On top of that, Linux is its own deterrent, because people still don’t realize that opening a terminal is becoming more optional all the time.
Until Linux breaks 10%, which is still less than half of Apple, I don’t think they’ll really care.

I’m sure that was an added benefit, but the market share of Linux users is not that big to give a political care about. This was likely a result of effective lobbying to the right people willing to listen to reason.
ETA: I’m still against Age Verification, and throwing Linux a bone doesn’t change that.

It is currently more than that, and it even has its own repos/mirrors, but the fact that basically every rich person is throwing money at this project should be a huge warning sign to everyone to avoid this.
But at the end of the day, it’s nothing revolutionary. It’s customized Linux with a tiling window manager, all funded by billionaires and developed by a turbo racist.

Free labor. Humans are expensive, but robot slaves are comparatively cheap (hypothetically).
Ultracapitalists have a harder time getting a slave labor force, so robots that can think like people are the next best thing for that purpose.
