Nah gamepass is fundamentally flawed and it capped out well below their projections for a very simple reason they didn’t consider.
Games are long, you can’t binge 3 games a day. You might finish one a month, hell most people will finish one game every 2 months.
A subscription service for things where one of said things can take 20-100 hours doesn’t make any sense.
That’s letting alone the cannibalization of their own sales, a total lack of ownership for anyone exclusively on gamepass so they’re never really committed, and you have a recipe for complete and utter mediocrity.

Fucking hysterical how everyone was celebrating Asha Sharma and Xbox a month or two ago, even though SHE LITERALLY SAID 1,600 CUTS ARE ON THE WAY.
This is because their AI bet fucking failed, and so did gamepass.
Yet the only ones hurt are Devs, the gamers, and potentially IPs people adore.

It’s been 5 years since mass public forced adoption and things have just gotten progressively worse.
The tool was not put out responsibly, and most importantly, the CEOs and companies leading the charge currently cannot be trusted.
AI has been a massive bust, has helped accelerate climate change, destroyed lives, raises power bills, and for what?
I’m not saying don’t R&D it and don’t use it, but forcing it down people’s throats and technofascist CEOs being in charge of this dumpster fire is killing us.

Over the past 5 years specifically, nearly every single piece of software I use from OS, to apps, to even legacy programs I trusted for decades have started to produce more bugs, are less stable, and less reliable.
At the same time, AI has been forced on people and AI using devs are proliferating while we still lack an understanding of AIs cognitive affects on us.
What exactly am I supposed to think? That all the programmers pushing AI on me like Crypto Bros while their programs work worse are smart, well intentioned people?
You can say whatever you want, I use the software, shits gotten absolutely terrible lately, and it’s not just the purposefully enshitified software either.

We have quite literally had screen readers since the 1980s.
I in no way insinuated that I do not care about disabled people, my own father lost his legs and I have dealt with the bullshit for decades, including the fact that disabled people, like any other marginalized group, are used to further shitty agendas and make bad faith arguments.
Thank god for screen readers, so let’s let LLM companies do whatever they want because we shouldn’t fight, it’s all pointless.

This is an AI LLM issue.
Using disabled people as an excuse to discourage people from fighting isn’t right, especially when no solutions are presented.
The blogger also seems to live in a fantasy world where at the end they are all information that is publicly available will be free and in these nice LLMs and shit, to which I say that all sounds awesome!
Are the governments and corporations currently building mass surveillance really going to allow people to do this once we all have to age verify our GDID windows PCs?
I don’t like where this is going and I’ve seen disabled people used in arguments by people who know nothing of their struggles my entire life.

We have tried sane washing billion dollar companies while they loot all our available knowledge, art, and culture to sell back to us in the form of a garbage chat or that helps destroy the planet.

The way to be effective is to fight.
GenAI needed to regulated years ago and I’m sorry but no amount of us asking nicely or fighting fair is going to stop technofascists from building their surveillance state.
In fact the past month has seen a huge uptick in stories about the “ineffectiveness” of fighting AI.
The timing of this while anti AI backlash is at an all time high tells me everything I need to know.
If the original comment offered solutions, different story.
There is no value in telling people to stop fighting.

Yea here’s the problem. The dumbest people you know are in charge right now. No I don’t mean they’re literally the stupidest by definition.
What I mean is that we created a system of nepotism and wealth so that many positions in both government and business are occupied by people WHO NEVER REALLY HAD TO LIVE IN THE REAL WORLD.

I watched a video about a guy building his own Stonehenge the other day. Using gravity and some cool techniques, the guy moves massive stones BY HIMSELF.
Meanwhile you have people so breathlessly stupid they think that the pyramids were built by aliens because “stone heavy, these people didn’t have construction equipment!!!”.
Modern tech does not mean solutions didn’t exist before. We have forgotten so much in the name of selling products that a simple solution like yours goes overlooked in favor of fucking AI and a third party company that surely definitely cares about 911.

It’s also about control. Maybe it didn’t start that way, but Xbox absolutely wanted to get people into their ecosystem with gamepass and the deals, and then keep them there.
I’m so tired of these shitty underhanded practices.
I just want to buy a PC/console/handheld and then be able to go and purchase a game that I OWN. Whether physical or digital, the fact that ownership is even a question when we have hundreds of ways to verify digital ownership, is insane.
These companies built a shitty world and they’re finally paying a slight bit for it.
