High school from some staff member I think. Maybe 25 years ago.

That sounds kinda close to an old saying I’ve heard once in over 40 years
Put a finger in your mouth and a finger in your anus, and hope; if that doesn’t work, switch around.

That was Castle Town, there’s also the Temple of Time entrance, there’s not that many maps where the OG just had a literal JPG flat background. And we saw Castle Town in the demo, it’s still a 1:1 map with the exact same town square, the same people, the same shops, and the same back alley, not a single change. Everything they showed had the exact same flat ground, flat walls, square rooms - only the Gerudo Hideout has ONE extra pillar stump that appears to go up to the cell you escape out of with the hookshot. Only Hyrule Field seems to have more variety and UE5 look in the hills and river banks and apparently a spot where the river kind of becomes a mini swamp area with Tektites (not sure which map that shot was in the trailer, could be the drained Lake Hylia)
It’s looking like the maps will be 1:1 down to the pixel, only filled up with space in the area past Castle Town walking up the guard trail to the castle. Except Kakariko where they apparently flipped the Skulltula house and the construction spot with the cuccoo coop in the back, for some weird reason?

No dawg, you did that because the hardware required a load screen there.
Have you heard of Breath of the Wild? The hardware does not require a loading screen there. There is a load screen because they separated the maps, so they do have to load the new assets between each screen transition, but splitting the map is the choice they made. They didn’t have to split the map, they could have made one big open world-style map (except for the dungeons) and they chose not to, that’s what they’re talking about. They’re not talking about how long it takes to load, they’re talking about the fact that it’s not one big map and it has transition screens, they didn’t need to do that.

Saria, Malon, the Kokiri shop kid, look decent. Young Link looks like a doll face with shimmering eyes and rosy blush cheeks and glossy skin, young Zelda has super weird eyes and nose proportions, but the other kids look a lot better with skin tones a lot flatter and less random shading, Saria’s and Malon’s eyes are much less jarring than Zelda. In the shot with Saria and Link facing each other at the beginning of Miyamoto’s play demo, Link’s face profile is glimmering from the lighting, and Saria’s face is normal in the same lighting, they’re clearly not from the same art / shading style.

on Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC devs faced “diametrically opposed” feedback from players in the West and Japan in c/games@lemmy.world · 1 Sep 2026
The term friction in gaming is a good thing, it’s basically engagement, keeping you awake while going from point A to B, a challenge, a puzzle, making you think or act / react, test of skills. Seeing it as inconvenience just shows the disconnect between what the dev wants you to do and what gameplay loop makes you happy.
Rebirth is almost 150GB. In Revelation, they’re cutting the Mythril Mines and some places like the Gongaga reactor that you wouldn’t return to at this point of the game, and they’re adding the Northern Crater, Wutai, Mideel, Rocket Town (remade as a space center), Fort Condor, and Midgar is back, each of this as a full region, not just one city. They’re not adding full underwater exploration, but there are underwater events.
I don’t know how this game can be under 250GB.
