Nintendo already have NFC readers on their controllers, so they could potentially challenge this.

The usefulness of a smart fridge always seemed dubious to me, but why the hell is the refrigeration part managed by the smart part? It’s literally just a pump.

on Xbox lays off 268 more employees, merges Obsidian into Bethesda and puts Activision in charge of Halo in c/games@lemmy.world · 1d ago
Infinite was a solid base that they just didn’t do anything with. The campaign felt incomplete and the multiplayer took years to get to the number of features that Halo 3 launched with, but the bones were good. If it had launched in a more complete state and the new campaigns were actually developed, it probably would have been great. However, Microsoft’s stubborn insistence on only using contractors and only for six months at a time made the whole concept untenable. For that matter, it’s driving the entire company into the ground.

Yeah, Asha Sharma seems to be set up as an example of the glass cliff. She’s clearly trying to bail out a sinking ship rather than revitalize a stale brand. Giving Halo to Activision shows a misunderstanding of what Halo players want, but the other things she’s doing are things that probably could have helped five or more years ago, but are just too late now. We’re probably heading toward a repeat of the 1983 crash. Xbox and PlayStation might still be around after, but they’ll be in the position that Atari and Sega were after the crash, with their remaining market share evaporating the instant a new competitor arrives.
Meanwhile, so long as Nintendo just keeps doing what they’ve been doing they should be fine. I could see them phasing out game key cards as an option for devs if the digital only backlash on the next generation is bad enough, but they might not have to given that the publishers that have been using them are the ones most likely to implode.

I think the plan is to have them do publishing and IP management, like what happened with LucasArts.

For an example, I picked up Duke Nukem Forever for $5 knowing the reviews weren’t great and still felt ripped off.

The shotgun range thing is mostly because almost no shooters have realistically scaled combat areas.

on DLSS 5 comes with a massive 50-60% performance hit, so I hope you like lower frame rates with your dose of AI image enhancement in c/games@lemmy.world · 3 Sep 2026
If the materials rendering part were integrated into the rendering pipeline as a standard thing that could be called with an API, that could be pretty good. Just pass along some info about the material and let it render like any other basic shader. But because it’s a post-processing shader that needs to analyze the entire image and work out materials on the fly to objects that have already been rendered, it murders the frame rate and can make mistakes on its guesses. There’s something legitimately interesting burried in there, but this is the worst possible way to implement it.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is popular if nothing else, but the art in the early games isn’t bad on purpose.

Death of the Outsider is the game after 2. It’s technically a stand-alone expansion rather than a game, though; it’s more like Dishonored 1’s Knife of Dunwall and Brigmore Witches expansions than it is a proper Dishonored 3, it just runs on its own executable rather than from a menu within Dishonored 2.

Technically, Deathloop is Dishonored 3. Death of the Outsider kind of killed the base gameplay premise that Dishonored 1 and 2 were built on, though, so I wouldn’t expect a true Dishonored 3… ever, really.
Whisker position shows a happy kitty, so it looks like it’s working.
