• Basically, yep. This drone is designed primairly as a target drone; since one of the things the US most wants to be shooting down is Shaheds, the form and capabilites are very similar for training use. (It’s supposedly a more advanced version, anticipating developments that Iran et. al. will likely (or have already) rolled out. Who knows how true that is, though.)

• AR glasses could be great - I’ve had a couple dev pairs and there’s real potential to the tech. But they all suffered from a total lack of developer support, which was a real problem given they were banking on outside devs to fill out their app stores. The snap glasses here seem like they’re going to have the same problems as the apple vision and microsoft’s hololens (which was SO GOOD why the FUCK did they never release it?? Fucking M$…): the initial userbase will be tiny due to the price, thus there’s going to be few hobby devs who can afford to buy in and there will be no incentive for the professional devs to invest in developing such a tiny potential market that relies entirely on a single proprietary piece of hardware.

  What we need is for there to be enough standardization that we can port apps between hardware so all your time invested in development can’t be tossed into the bin of history at the whim of Snapchat & it’s shareholders.

• In an ideal scenario for sure, but in implementation you’re going to run into issues like network throughput and resource access distribution optimization (i.e. feynman parallarity). I got out of the house without a whiteboard or a single grad student (you just never remember the important things) so I can’t confirm more than napkin math, but you may indeed be right that it’s at worst quadratic.

• Ah, I was misremembering an aspect - though the requirement is still there that as users join the storage* requirements will increase in the worst case exponentially, it’s not inherent to the ideal system, rather it’s a byproduct of cacheing requirements. At a certain point there will be enough users that popular content being accessed will overwhelm the instance hosting it - this is somewhat fixed by caching popular videos on other instances, but as the network of instances grows the need for cached resources grows with it. There may be ways to get around this, if so I’m simply not familiar enough with the current state of the software to know what those solutions are.

• I know it’s a joke, but in case you decide to go for a position like this in the UK: you probably wouldn’t make it past the technical with those examples. Mainly, data migration is a system migration process (rsync might be a tiny part of the process but it’s absolutely not what they’re asking about) and endpoint security is not the same thing as an antivirus.

  Honestly it’s pretty standard stuff you’d find in a posting for a senior technical position, but it’s just… three senior tech positions rolled into one (Four if they actually want training plans) and for low-journey pay. Pretty damn ridiculous.
