• ah, yeah, I am not sure I have ever seen a website have decent search of its own so I use Kagi for basically every search lol. I just enter my query then add “site:site.com” to the end to limit it to results from that site

• I’m not who you replied to, but in the same boat as him. I burn through 300 in a week, let alone a month. In my kagi settings I can see I make around 1100 searches each month. That 300 limit is just not possible for me

• You seem to not understand something here. Even if we take your points at face value, which they are quite off, but regardless, lets jump back a few more years to the computer / phones / the calculator. People were saying the same thing about being able to do complex or even basic math. Guess what? I haven’t needed the ability to do any of that Math in my head for atleast 20 years now. “You wont always have a calculator!” yes, I have always had one since then.

  Its the same with most of your points, you’re afraid that people will forget how to code? If the LLMs can do the coding in your place well enough for you to forget it, obviously it can do well enough to where you can shift your focus and skill set to something else that works alongside the LLMs.

  If you were actually in the professional world where people are using and learning alongside these new tools, you wouldn’t be so dismissive about it.

• Another good option is Arcane. Its project structure gives you a good place to put bind mounts which you can edit the contents of in app (like configs and such). It’s pretty handy. I am in the process of switching to it from komodo for all of my stacks

  All it really takes imo is a small adjustment of words to change your stance from looking like zealotry to actual concern for the issues. I also think these sidetracks are important, to be fair. Otherwise we wouldn’t have had this conversation to deepen our understanding of the issues.

  I would be more than willing to agree if the message was “Frontier AI labs are causing massive harm to the environment by facilitating irresponsible use of AI” rather than “AI is evil, fuck you for using it” (not saying those are your words, just getting my point across lol)

  As for the layoff blame, just because I say I like hamburgers doesn’t mean I hate hotdogs. Layoffs can be happening from both those things, and just because people are acknowledging one source doesn’t mean they are helping the other source…

• He doesn’t care for misguided opinions not backed with anything but emotion. The people he is talking about don’t actually look into the issues and fight those, their mind is set that AI is evil and you are too for any usage of it, without actually understanding anything about the situation.

  There are situations where using AI uses less power than traditional methods, there are situations where the power is clean, hell there are even models getting made that don’t use stolen data. Some people use it more responsibly (use tiny models where possible) while some toss everything at whatever new Fable or Opus is available.

  There are levels of AI usage and their blanket statements with no understanding are annoying because it alienates the people that are responsible with their usage.
