Completely depends on where you are too, my NAS uses ~30W, which means ~22kWh in 30 days, which translated into local electricity costs are 53SEK or $5.39.
It has enough CPU (Intel Celeron J4125) to run my production loads, RAID1 16TB drives and 18GB RAM so it successfully hosts DNS, DHCP, Jellyfin, Vikunja and network shares. And I get the knowledge that it is all local and under my control.

She answers that question right after the question in the same article, making it a rhetorical device rather than an open question.

Focusing on human responsibility for using a tool sounds like a good way to proceed in my opinion.
When AI steal open source code who is responsible? When an AI powered drone kills a civilian who is responsible? When the AI is shown to hire and fire in racist ways who is responsible? Someone has to be, AI is just a tool after all.

In my book I write, “Can a bridge decide to collapse?” The whole “Oh no, our models went rogue” thing … When a bridge collapses, you don’t analyze whether the bridge was ethical or sentient or why it decided to collapse. You ask, who is the person who built this bridge to be so flimsy? There are permits you have to acquire. There are supposed to be tests. When you ask about the bridge collapsing itself, you’ve lost the thread.

Meanwhile, what’s really existential is AI powering autonomous weapons, killing machines, that are actually being used in warfare. The climate catastrophe is a real thing that could be exacerbated by what these tech companies are building. Bosses are using AI as an excuse to get rid of their pesky workers. This machine-god narrative is, in my opinion, meant to distract us from these.

I recommend that you look into nagios and zabbix before you get started. Both have free selfhosted open source solutions. And both are used professionally on the enterprise level so you even gain a skillset that can earn you money!

Dolly was business savvy, she owned her own songs from the start and despite owning the rights (and getting royalties) from over 3000 songs and having a popular tourist trap in Dollywood she never became a billionaire cause she kept sending those profits into her foundation and philantrophic work. I get that SM = Social Media, not Scrum Master or Sadomasochism but what is AV short for? Neither Antivirus or Adult Video seem to match your intention. ;-)

I believe the driving force behind these bans are two sides of the same coin, propaganda and disinformation or rather how to protect the citizens from it, and historically free societies are faced with a dilemma trying to find a counter to the polarization that happens through social media while remaining a free society.

When the village idiot finds a group of similar minds online, and then feed on an echo chamber of shit, MAGA is born (and easily influenced by whoever can spin the rage bait correctly).
Ban the echo chamber and the village idiot remains an unorganized fool.

I imagine the focus on social media will soon fade as the new frontier of disinformation is polluting the LLM training data by creating a ton of websites parroting the view you want to infect the LLM with.
We already have people asking AI and repeating the AI equivalent of putting glue on pizza and taking it as a fact.
