on US government sides with OpenAI on issue of training LLMs on copyrighted material: »it is critical for the United States to ‘retain global leadership in artificial intelligence.« in c/technology@lemmy.world · 2 Sep 2026
The main challenge I see is that Aaron Schwartz and countless others have been prosecuted for access to information but AI companies have been rewarded. There is precedence that access like this is not legal. Had they gone through a library system or used a mechanic like that it may have worked but from what I understand, they used torrents and other mechanics to access the data. So you have companies that go after individual infringement but pursue their own mass infringement. Whether AI generated materials is infringement is above my pay grade but their consumption of the materials seems pretty straight forward as infringement.

on AI Generated 3D Models Flood Market, But Almost No One Is Buying Them in c/technology@lemmy.world · 15 Aug 2026
There are a bunch of areas where AI has really struggled and design like this is a good example. My closest experience is AI trying to create Lucid charts. Everytime I see it done I think, “what drugs are you taking” and realize it’s an AI creation. At the super high level it looks like it could be accurate and then you start following the flow diagrams and it’s insane.
I’m guessing that as the guardrails are out in place on Anthropic models, they will still use Claude code but leverage Qwen (or similar) as the LLM. Maybe they are doing that already and simply misunderstanding what Claude is. The LLM wasn’t named…I would expect them to call out Opus (as an example) but they just refer to Claude. My basic guess is just Claude Code witha random model. Could be like Mistral-OBLITERATED or something.
