• Fun fact: Campaign Evolved is technically the third remake.

  Bungie was originally a Mac exclusive game company when they were bought out by MS. Halo was almost complete at that point and had to be ported to DirectX. The original PowerPC edition got a release eventually as well as an updated Universal Binary version that, due to the MacBook Air, is the only game I know of to have an official no-CD patch.

• For what it’s worth the original point of the Pi was to recreate the experience of the Commodore 64 or BBC Micro where they came with huge manuals with ample examples and were more or less bare hardware for cheap. Taking that metaphor all the way is how we got the 400 and 500.

• It does almost feel like a failure on our part that the Gen Zers I meet typically see devices as completely solid-state and always online. But it’s almost one step further than that, there was somebody on here a few weeks ago talking about that being able to take your music in with you from the car would have been sci-fi in the 70s and I was like cassettes are portable… It’s almost like the tendency to look at past generations as less capable than your own has also been dialed up to 11 in the current crop of college aged Gen Zers especially. But this has just been my personal experience.

  I’ll type it slower this time so you really get it: people shouldn’t be able to be removed from the places they’ve lived for most or all of their lives. Regardless of where that is or who’s removing them. It doesn’t matter what the reasons or method are it always results in pain and suffering.

  The bottom line for me here is that he shouldn’t have been kicked out regardless, after 24 years no matter what he did he should’ve gone through the Swedish penal system or something like that. Or it’s totally OK to kick people out after they’ve lived there for most of all of their lives and we should stop using that excuse in the other places.

In the meantime that they’ve been there for a long time it’s literally the reason that we can’t give land back to the Palestinians or Georgia back to the Cherokees, so as a Native American I’m very interested in why it’s OK now. • Clippy gets a lot more crap than they should. I think people forget that Office 97 was many people’s first time using a graphical word processor and for some their first time using a mouse. Those who bought machines just a couple years prior when Word first came to Windows weren’t ready to upgrade yet. So those who had some experience usually had it in older DOS based programs where mouse support was hit and miss, but most were coming from typewriters or nothing at all. Clippy was actually pretty good a bouncing around the screen and showing people what to click on to do things or even just walking people through the things they could do.

• AFAIK the use case is laptops because sleep and hibernate still uses some small amount of the battery. You used to be able to stop that by turning off wake from USB but that meant having to press the power button to wake it up and I guess they decided to just make it that way anyway.
