  Not too long ago, I ended up randomly on one of those “curator” lists where they review basically everything in terms of wokeness. You know, so you can buy responsibly or something. That shit is hilarious.

  Like half of the “nope” have no reason but “there’s gay marriage in it”, but wait, Skyrim has that too… “Err yeah, but we like that one so, it’s okay. For… reasons.”

  And I remember one game getting a “Not Recommended” with the only line in the whole review being “In the trailer, you can see a man who’s knitting”.

  The only one that’s marketable to the idiots buying AI services is Helpful. So that’s always top priority even when it goes against the other two.

• I don’t know if that situation evolved a bit since, but Nintendo of Europe has had a lot of stupid crap happen to the Europe e-shop because of Australia (it was still the case mid-Switch 1).

  Historically (mostly because they used to have the PAL standard like Europe), Australia was considered the same region as Europe for Nintendo. Somehow this survived long after the need for the PAL/NTSC distinction, as some level of joint management of e-shop for EU and Australia. Problem is, Australia is very trigger-happy when it comes to change a game rating, and Nintendo too when it comes to remove a game until rerating is validated. It took something like 6 months in some cases.

  Example, Jamestown, a classic pew-pew pixel-style bird’s eye shoot’m up, removed from both stores for that long, despite the fact Europe’s own rating PEGI maintained a 7+ rating for it. Still have no idea what could have triggered Australia’s change of rating.

• It’s pretty obvious when they all seem to be competing for the scariest “containment breach”.

  Anthropic keep posting article after article about new ways their LLMs keep “surprising” them with unexpected behaviour. This year’s “uncontrolled, autonomous” hack news from every AI company are completely absurd boasts. In normal times, everyone would be wondering why they sound like they’re proud of obvious incompetence.

  But since we’re in super-hype “keep the money coming, AGI is tomorrow” times, instead, those are used to sell the lie of mysterious superintelligence. Be enthusiastic, be scared, we don’t care, talk about it!

• Seems like that version of the game (2021 enhanced rerelease without microtransactions), was only on Apple Arcade, so it was already iOS/MacOS exclusive to begin with I assume.

• Every time I hear about Project Zomboid, it looks like exactly the kind of game I’d want to play… but on a mechanics level only. I never really cared about zombie survival stuff, and the huge craze around the genre in the mid 00s to 10s only killed it to me.

• I don’t design web apps but I’ve heard from some that do that firefox occasionally has problems with them, because it relies a lot on caching (actually they used the term “aggressive caching”, with a few extra choice words).

  Anyway, usually not a problem. I use edge only for work since it’s the default browser and I barely do any actual browsing with it, mostly light app clients. On my own devices, it’s been firefox only for years.

• Few years ago I completed the pokedex on Gen 6/7, using transfers back from Gen 4-5. That was fun. Especially Black, the way they balanced content in BW felt very fresh IMO, and the sprite work is very nice in Gen 5.

  I kinda fell off the series after USUM, didn’t care about Let’s Go, there was the “dexit” debacle, the whole “get used to not being able to get eveyone in one game from now on”. And then the absurdly bad performance/glitch reports in new episodes.

  Pokopia is my only Pokémon-adjacent game since Ultra-Moon, and that’s mainly because I heard it was great and I liked Dragon Quest Builders 2. And, to be honest, it is a very cool game. I just finished the base game’s pokédex.

• They’ve said they’re working on an “infinite” slop mode where the conversations are AI-generated.

  They used to have no AI disclosure, and people had to learn about them using AI through that disgruntled writer’s story.

  So now given the very mature CEO answer, I’m assuming they’re butthurt that some people want to know about their AI use, and they’re using the disclosure to claim that part of their game is not AI instead.

• That would only work for their own slop though. Anthropic cannot recognize Google’s watermark, only theirs.

  I assumed the goal might be so they could check whether other models have been trained on their output. Like anthropic using that as a “proof” when they start whining again about Chinese “distillation attacks”.

  Of course, since they’re the only ones able to check their watermark, it would be rather shit as evidence anyway. “We’ve run the numbers, and we know you can’t, but trust us, this chatbot is totally copying ours!”

• In this case the problem is not even DRM, it’s that the game was entirely streamed from a cloud service. People buying that technically never had the game on their device and were always dependent on a server that would be shut down eventually.

  This is the future big tech companies want. Not owning anything to the point the game doesn’t even exist on your device. I say fuck them.

• This is what I feel happened with Starfield (not to the same extent, but still).

  Everyone hyped the hell of it, it released, huge collective “meh”, and two weeks later it was mostly forgotten.

  I had already had enough of Todd Howard and Bethesda’s bullshit at this point, so I was just wondering why that was even hyped so much to begin with.

  At least I used to like Bethesda. I don’t even give a shit about GTA, so Rockstar can crash and burn for all I care.
