• If you mean like when you’re creating a list of items that already contain commas, such as New York, NY; Boston, MA; and Sacramento, CA, then that is also a valid use of semicolons.

  My error was writing my sentence with a valid semicolon, then editing the sentence structure without replacing the semicolon with a comma before posting.
