I breezed through the other replies and didn’t see anyone asking why you want wifi.
If you’re going to hang a node somewhere and have it solar powered, the nRF52 will give you waaaaaaaaay longer life and easier (solar) recharging. I’ve got nodes that have been out (unmaintained) for three or four years now, running on a 2,000mAh battery and 2x crappy 60mA@5v solar cells, and they’ve never dropped out as far as I can tell… even in deep winter when you shouldn’t be charging lithium-ion battery packs in sub freezing temps : )
I’m probably dumb, but I don’t see why anyone wants wifi from a LoRa node when all it does is rob power/longevity without adding any benefit that I can think of.

Is there any difference in the hardware between Meshtastic and Meshcore? I didn’t think there was… but I haven’t been keeping a close eye on it.
I have a lot of RAK4631 based builds and I flashed a few from Meshtastic to Meshcore, said “meh”, then flashed back to Meshtastic. So … I assume no hardware difference. I think it’s mostly just the software/routing protocol that is different (which is why I stuck with Meshtastic).
EDIT: Also tried RNode (Reticulum) on the same hardware which was… interesting, but a silly protocol to have on a solely LoRa device.

Since you covered the important bits, I’d add :
ESP32 if you want WiFi but short battery life, nRF52 if you want long battery life but no WiFi.

Because it was generated by a llm.
I did a search for the torque spec on a castle nut last week and the second result was for a nut (as in, food nuts that you eat) website and the llm had gone all in on nuts and added a page about castle nuts. It even generated an image of a castle for the top because… castle nut.
It proceeded to provide vague instructions and a torque recommendation of 2x the actual spec.
Then there was the other one about a small 4 stroke engine where it stated “other sites will say you don’t need to mix oil with gas but you absolutely must!” (You don’t and shouldn’t) … I wonder how many people have fucked up their shit by trusting llm garbage without knowing better.

I’ve spent the last 9 months coming in behind these “look what I did! AI!” projects and fixing them. One was turned over to a coworker as a “here I did all this work for you” … Wouldn’t even start because it tried to bind to the same TCP port three times in the init, for some reason.
It’s getting a little better, but I still mostly unfuck shit that people LLMd and then (they) walked away to much fanfare at their “expertise” to do it again.
It’s a tool, not a replacement for thought.

Same. Local RAID 1 with rotating external drives where one is always offsite, then B2 as a last ditch “just in case” for my most important data. I forget how much data I have in B2 but it’s about $2/month.

You’re supposed to immediately shitpost based on the post title. At least, that’s how I learned to Lemmy
If it helps for comparison, my esp32 got about 2.5 days on a 2,000mAh battery. My nrf52 gets about 10 days on the same battery.
Edit: that was with no charging at all, just “plug it in and see how long it lasts”
