I play games. I watch visual entertainment. TTRPGs are games. A narrative game where I don’t get to do anything that impacts anything about anything in the game, to me, isn’t much of a game to me. It’s wait-for-player-to-interact visual entertainment—not much different than those games you got on DVDs for movies.

The EU back when they were deciding GDPR decided not to use the browser’s “do not track me”. The W3C even tried to help them and during the making of GDPR a commission even recommended using DNT signals.
Capitalism and advertisers won of course and they decided not to follow DNT signals from the browser. Why will they change their mind this time?

Registering SSL is a centralized process with root CAs logging new ones as they come in. Cert transparency logs are a thing, and Google is very involved: certificate.transparency.dev
Once a bad actor hooks up to that, they just get a realtime stream of places to start port scanning and running WHOIS queries for people who didn’t get WHOIS protection. If you used letsencrypt your domains you registered certs for got sent there and anyone who wanted to know about it knew about it before you could tell anyone.
You can use something like crt.sh to look up domains

Linux TTYs stand for: teletype. This badass will continue to live on in human history as long as linux does at least. 5-bit Baudot code can be converted to ascii so in theory linux TTYs can still decode it over a serial port

on Behold, "the whole story of Steam's economy in one picture": the top 1% of games earn 84.5% of estimated revenue, and most games barely make anything in c/games@lemmy.world · 21 Aug 2026
Its just an idea to get the ball rolling homie, my point is is there is room for investigation into this and Valve have the resources to do it, and no one demands anything from them to use their massive resources to alleviate an issue they have the data on and can choose to work on.

Gamedev is a pipe dream folks, meant to create steady labor force for publishers to squeeze work from for profit because they fire you after your game gets released, even if it does well.
By the way, Valve can do more here. This is something they can choose to invest more in. People don’t have to be satisfied with the effort Valve has made so far and can instead choose to expect more.
Indie games pump Valve’s stock, popular or not—they should get some profit sharing even if they don’t sell IMO but that’s just me. Like a community dividend. Unfortunately, not too many people demand more from Valve.

Gen x and millennials are the leading buyers and target audience for any commercial success. You gotta convince them. Good luck. You’re up against white bearded guys who work in IT and are “apolitical” and their 401ks are invested in data centers and they use ai at work. they loved elon when he did the nazi salute twice but hated him when he it was popular after trump got elected and he ran doge for a bit. They love tesla and space x.
its either cater to them or it’s a cult of personality because gen z and younger are still impressionable. so be famous with some kind of preexisting following or cater to gen x white dudes. That’s ttrpgs right now. D&D. Daggerheart. Shadowdark. MCDM. Deathbringer. etc etc

I will never use AI unless I am paid to like I currently am. I am not a worse developer for it. I have been learning software engineering continuously my entire life. I am completely self taught for over a decade professionally and longer than that in my free time. I have no university degree. I grew up in poverty in nowheresville Kentucky.
I don’t need an LLM to learn or succeed. LLMs literally need people like me. I am sad Linus cant see it that way, but never meet your heroes so they say. l
