• Actually I remember back when people start to calling it hallucinations there was quite a bit of pushback on it because it’s a complete mischaracterization of what’s going on.

  If you are performing a task and you make a mistake, that wasn’t hallucination, it was a mistake.

  When AI is hallucinate it’s not because they “think” the hallucination is real, it’s just that their weird math brain spewed out the wrong answer, for whatever reason, and now they are stuck with it and need to try and make some kind of coherent sentence out of it.

• Not quite. The founding is actually worse.

  Bill Gates was shown, in good faith, a tech demo by, I think IBM but I may be wrong with that, for a new graphical user interface they were planning on releasing soon, and he just stole it and released windows, before they could get their product to market.

• There was nothing fundamentally wrong with the game pass idea. But that there was never anything good in it, and they kept raising the price. Sometimes they had so much filler content in there that if you discounted the games you didn’t want and only looked at the games you did want, it would have actually been cheaper to just buy the game directly. Which is in what people did.

• Why don’t they just get out of the industry, they clearly don’t want to be in it anymore. It’s just been stupid decision, after stupid decision, they basically have a license to print money and instead of creating the games that people want, and then selling them for people to play on their confusingly named consoles, they instead muck around with it by raise prices, closed studios and discontinuing IPs.

• This is actually an argument I was having about two hours ago with my managers. They want to replace a bunch of low level workers with AI, and have the remaining low level workers use the AI to do the job of the lost workers. Their justification for this is that the engineers have been using AI for over a year now and performance has improved, (I don’t actually know if performance has improved, but they say it has).

  And what you said was basically my point, sure performance improves when engineers use AI because the people using the AI, are engineers, they can tell when the AI has given them something worth working with, and they can tell when it hasn’t. The low level workers can’t do that, I had an argument with one of them this morning because they kept insisting that the computer tower was a CPU, and kept calling it that. How is someone like that going to be able to tell if the AI has given them good output or not?

• The company are the ones that mandate that we use the dam thing. They are actually threatening to right people up if they don’t use it enough but then not specifying what enough means. So now it’s getting used for everything.

• Microsoft don’t have a distribution platform for PC games, even when they did no one used it. So they will only be able to introduce this in games that they are the publisher for, which is actually not that many games.

  I’m very sure steam already prohibits in-game advertising. So Microsoft would have to distribute these games themselves and the moment that any publisher decides to go their own route they immediately decrease their revenue, even if nothing else has changed.

• Like saying you don’t need to be a structural engineer to demolish a skyscraper. You need to be pretty well versed in computer science to be able to hack a system to any reasonable extent. If you just go ham at it and just press random buttons nothing is going to happen / you’re going to be detected.

• I suppose it’s useful for writing those reports that have to be written because financial rules, but no one ever looks at. Reduced quality in that area is acceptable because the chances any of the documents are ever going to be looked at are minimal, and if they are looked at, the work the AI did was probably good enough, even if it wasn’t to your normal standards.

• I use it rewrite work emails, that way I don’t have to put any thought into formatting or punctuation it’s just a stream of consciousness that then translates into a proper formatted email. But that is pretty much it.

  If my private life I don’t use AI for anything, not because I have a particular hatred of AI, I just don’t have anything that can think that it could be used for.

  If the technology suddenly became unavailable, I’d be absolutely fine. I don’t think it’s a good idea to become too reliant on AI anyway, it leaves you vulnerable to price gouging. I like to keep all my thinking inside my own brain where it’s free.

• Did you have the course in how to pick up a cardboard box? It’s a mandatory requirement that everyone in the company has to do, even if they work in corporate.

  The heaviest thing I have to live in my job as a mini PC, it weighs considerably less than my cat, I’m not sure I really needed the training.

• That would be a profound lack of imagination on companies. Raising prices to cover costs make sense since all businesses will be affected in the same way equally, but to just do it because everyone has more money doesn’t, your competitor might just undercut you by keeping their prices the same, and then get all the profit.

• Given Sony’s recent announcements I’m inclined to think that they might actually just be idiots.

• It depends how you use it.

  If you put out a game that works but hasn’t got all its art assets yet then it looks like you’re basically just releasing the game early.

  If you put out a game which only has its first two levels and upon completion of level 2 it has some text that says “more to come” people understand that’s an early access.

  But there’s way too many of the first example and not enough of the second example. None of this is helped by games like No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield that released in buggy states, making people think that early access just means broken.

  What particular event are you talking about. I know of no time that somebody created a weapon of mass destruction and then set it off with them standing right next to it.

  I feel like you’ve probably missed my point, they say AI will destroy the entire human race which presumably they are part of, which means they are claiming to be creating the means for their own demise as well. No one would do that. Which means either they’re insane, which is possible but the most likely answer is that they are lying.

• I know these people believe what they’re saying but what they’re saying isn’t true. If you genuinely 100% truly believed that you were building a bomb that would blow you up you would stop making it. No amount of financial incentive can convince you to create something that you wholeheartedly believe will destroy you.

  The various AI companies just use the threat of human extinction as an advertising gimmick and it’s getting pathetic. You cannot continuously announce that you’ve invented AGI every three months for several years straight and maintain any kind of credibility.

• Those would be all very valid uses but the problem is is that they’re not smart glasses. They are just normal glasses (well non prescription fake plastic glasses) with a camera in them. If they could give you directions or something on a sort of holographic heads up display they might have some use.
