Makes you wonder what happened to Todd Howard in the first place. Maybe he’s not good management but a better developer

Now that’s a valid point

Yeah I don’t know why I said that. I’m just surprised that it’s still has a cultural impact after 20 years

Yet somehow wow has retail, classic, progressive classic and now forever. Who the hell is still playing that game?

on Next major Halo game being developed by Activision, as Halo Studios all but closes as part of Microsoft's Xbox restructuring in c/games@lemmy.world · 2d ago
That makes sense, as I was thinking about it I realized that Infinite is still ongoing so they need to keep a barebones team around for support of that. But honestly I hope it goes away. Is so pretentious and cringe having a game studio named after the game series.

Why even keep halo studios open?

Damn yeah it makes sense why they were so weird for physical media. It’s what’s started everoand no cma deny that Japanese culture loves tradition.

I should find something online and look this up. Sounds like an interesting history lesson

Yeah Nintendo has a weird relationship with physical Media, but I will admit, when they announced Switch was using cartridges again, I was way too excited lol

on Hyper Light Drifter Studio Forced To Lay Off "Nearly Everyone" As Publishing Deal Falls Through in c/games@lemmy.world · 6d ago
Keep in mind the original game was only 5 people. The heart of Hyper Light Drifter started with just a few minds. If Preston scales the company back to what it was back in 2015, it can return again.
The fact that they announced it wasn’t a closure is good. Don’t forget that online journalism relies on clicks and uses exaggerated language to keep those clicks coming.

It was a publisher move sadly. It had so much potential

I’ll be the optimist in the room. The studio is going on life support but is still alive. Solar Ash was a great game even if it didn’t bring in the number like HLD and maybe they bit off more than they could chew with Breaker. If the studio can stay alive, their next move needs to be something small again. They clearly have a good vision with their overarching game world and it doesn’t need to be of massive scope.

Oddly I can’t quite figure out why this feels too gory, but this game just goes a step to far me. I’ll be passing on that alone. And this form a person who loves blowing up bodies in Fallout.

on Valheim: Deep North 1.0 in c/games@lemmy.world · 9 Sep 2026
Saying the game was abandoned is completely false. Iron Gate has been consistently releasing dev blogs and major content updates (Hearth & Home, Mistlands, Ashlands, and now the Deep North for 1.0) since launch in 2021. They’re a small indie team that intentionally took their time to avoid crunch and maintain quality. It’s fine if the vanilla loop or pacing isn’t your thing, but the devs definitely didn’t abandon it or just ‘slap a 1.0 badge’ on it.
That makes complete sense and honesty I hope Todd has learned his lesson and MS are wrangling him in.
