It's a tiny fraction of people that ever bother changing the default settings, this is pretty much just to appease the vocal minority.

I'm not sure what you mean... linux "supports" bloatware just fine, it's just that we don't have much of that kind of software (yet), and i'm sure they could get it all to run through winboat or somesuch if they really wanted to.

The fun part is that they can bundle an equal amount of bloatware on linux for even more revenue.

on Why nano gets used in c/programmer_humor@programming.dev · 9 Aug 2026
vim does not respect nano shortcuts and modes are simply a barrier: an extra keypress and another thing to keep track of. It slows you down significantly.
You obviously haven't used much vim if you think modes slow you down. First it means you don't have to bring your right hand all the way to the arrows whenever you want to move the cursor, secondly it means you can use shortcuts without adding a modifier everytime - this translates to fewer keypresses.
Things aren't that simple, included in the microsoft licensing price are things like customer support - and not just for windows but other products like office, and none of that are part of the 0$ linux license. If you want customer support on linux (redhat, canonical...) it ain't free either.
