ok, as i said I’m unfamiliar with this topic, so I’m happy about some inside.
how do you proof that you open sourced something before somebody patented it? i mean a parent is registered at some authority. is it sufficient to refer to your, e.g., GitHub history?

I’m not an expert in those legal fingerprints, but i can imagine that you might need a parent even if you want to open source it, simply so nobody else can patent it. on the other hand, in right now to lazy/sleepy to read the article, so don’t mind me :)

networking plays a big roll in such things. the more connections you have, the more possibilities. in my job that is normal as well ( not for donations, but it’s important to get a job)

the online shop version is not really available anyway so far, as far as i can figure out. but i understand that you should be able to directly deal with it via your bank. so your bank would be the professor, and that you anyway need :)

sounds tricky because eventually it relies on some accessible api of the banks or other place the money is at.
btw, it would be helpful if you disclose in which country you are, i guess USA, but can’t be sure. this would change some aspects.

for me it was the fact that the desktop case i used for the server had the power button on top and it was big enough to be pushed in, when my cat walked over it…

i might be a more typical nerd. i have a phd in physics and took a bunch of computer science course out of interest/boredom.
but i never learned anything that is really related to hosting. containers were not really a thing at the time and most courses i took were much more fundamental, like basics of networking or cpu scheduling. programming a learned on the fly to solve a problem, never as actual task in itself (what is very typical in my field and leads to horrible program code/collaboration scheme)
