• Corey Doctorow didn’t invent that term, but I’m glad people are talking about it.

  It comes from “centaur chess” which is chess where both players are assisted by a computer. The humans are “riding” the computer in the centaur analogy — benefitting from the computer’s ability to process the best tactical move, while the human handles the strategy. They found out that computers win chess against humans every time; but humans with computers win against the computer every time.

• Yes, I kept various taking tests weekly for years until it finally got too expensive. I still have only been sick once since 2019, got a cold in 2025. N95 mask nearly everywhere, nearly all the time.

  I’m in a couple different academic studies for possible covid resistance, but I keep telling them I don’t think there’s anything biologically keeping me from getting covid, it’s just the masking + forsaking society.

• This is why I’ve been arguing to anyone who will listen for like four years now. If this tech is so amazing, someone will figure out a way to make money off of it. Right? The fact that it’s been 4+ years and no one has made a damn cent off of it should be making more people skeptical. The fact that 4 years ago it was widely celebrated even though no one had a plan to make a damn cent off of it should have made more people skeptical back then. It’s weird that I have to keep arguing this with folks.

• For real. I never feed my cat shortly after waking up. So she never wakes me up, because she knows she won’t get what she wants.

  I moved back in with my parents because of reasons. Against my request, they started feeding her as soon as they wake up. So now my cat wakes them up earlier every day. She still never bothers me because she is perfect. My parents complain, and I don’t know what to tell them beyond “stop rewarding her when she wakes you up in the morning… like I told you.”

• So what AI company can I invest in and start making money, today? Which one is a going concern with solid financials? Because I’m pretty sure none of them are actually making more money than they’re spending on electricity. Because this tech doesn’t work on a very basic level.

  Maybe it will get better. But it’s been years and I haven’t seen it improve enough to be economically relevant.

  Like this is Bernie. He’s not perfect, but he gets this type of shit right. Obviously he’s advocating a 32 hour, 4-day work week. It says so in the article that apparently no one read. But people are just so inured to everything getting worse all the time. Damn.

• I absolutely take Luddite as a compliment, the historical Luddites were cool as hell. And with the benefit of hindsight, we now know their predictions were basically correct about increasing automation leading to lower quality products and more alienated lifestyles.

• If you’re on iOS, check out Orion browser—it can install firefox extensions, including ublock. I’m pretty sure there are ways to get this done on Android, too, but I’m not familiar with them. I haven’t seen an ad on youtube in years, on desktop or mobile.
