• That’s kind of what happened to me. At first it was great, pay was not too bad, I was teaching myself new things, it was really pretty good. Then a decade later, it’s just work to why am I even doing this.

  I think the last three years I’ve been working solo, had a co-worker briefly but he needed something more consistent.

  So from going back 6 years ago, having three co-workers and going to just me by myself, it started to feel like solitary confinement and I slowly started to hate it. The base pay didn’t change; I’ve been not paid and ripped off too many times, customers suck but at least I shut down a few businesses that way. Then came the complaints about, I would charge $150 for a trip charge and $100 an hour after that. Which is actually reasonable because of all the work before hand, billing, ordering parts, driving, vehicle wear and fuel (I’d have to charge $250 for a trip now because of the all the expenses), tools, etc. And well the decade of experience. Not to mention fixing shit in a restaurant is a crappy work environment and the restaurant owners are the most annoying, entitled, cry babies. So I stopped doing service calls. And just did the $30 an hour, 1099, at the shop for whoever wants to bring their stuff in to get fixed.

  I liked the work that I did but not the rest of it and the constant nagging from my ex-friend/boss (learned why you don’t work with friends). It’s like the whole business was set up around me and it just felt worse and worse. So yeah I recently quit and I’m hoping to get a job at a pet store while being a career college student. It makes me happy that there was maybe 10K of lost sales. A family member died, I got sick from the lettuce fun, and then I was told I’m a lazy drunk, get out of bed and go to work, and the kicker “was she really that important to you.” So I just said fuck it, I’m done.

  When I worked in retail, it wasn’t bad. I was surrounded by pretty girls… some of which I dated, and well some that I had to smack away with a fly swatter. They let me do whatever I wanted there so it was good, got a 50% raise in a year and a position created just for me that paid as much as a supervisor. Interacted with all sorts of people, it was nice. I’ll tell you, I have to get reacquainted with society. The last three-four years of only seeing an average of two people a day messed me up. I struggle going to the grocery store for longer than ten minutes.

  Sorry for the long rant, but I just figured I’d share that I get what you mean.

• While those will be the last bastion. Not many people want to do them for many reasons, like running wire in an attic in the summer–you can put a gun to my head and I’m still not going up there (I do my own house repairs, but it’s winter only).

  Honestly I wish I just went to retail after moving back to family. My body’s fubar. And I fixed espresso machines; which is a combination of plumbing and electrical. So far 0/5 trainees. They all end up making mistakes, breaking stuff with the hold my beer method, and give up after a few days.

• So since the company has dissolved. There was an idea to make it like a COD game… and an idea to make it like a minecraft/fortnite game… after so many years it turned to just make a halo something game because having 300 contractors alongside the studio ended up costing too much.

• Hah in CS I played a lot of the Jailbreak mod. Actually played a bit in CSGO but it wasn’t the same. I actually didn’t look into Dark Age until you brought it up but it does look like they got the message that the finishing moves and walking through a map weren’t exactly everyone’s favorite concepts. I’ll probably get it when it’s on sale, it looks a lot more fast paced. I might be a minority on this but I miss the faster paced games like Painkiller and well UT2003 on double speed and double damage.

• I think part of the reason it was highly praised was because I imagine it was a lot of peoples first Doom game. Like Doom 2016 and Doom 3, it was also something a bit different.

  I didn’t like the scarcity of ammo and constantly have to see and hear the stupid chainsaw. And the cinematic kills everything got really annoying as well. The level design was okay, but felt very restricted compared to Doom 2016, also invisible walls. It felt slow and I didn’t care for the jumping mechanics, what is this Super Mario? I didn’t make it to playing it two hours since I returned it, I’m sure it probably got better but I didn’t feel like playing it.

• What grinds my gears is when a game ends up not what you expected. One of the only games I returned was Doom Eternal, I bought it and hated it and this is from someone who’s played all the doom games and even made maps for fun. I got it again for a dollar off of humble bundle and I will probably never play it.

  Same goes for The Outer Worlds. I was excited about it. The whole epic launcher thing saved me the full price. Got it years later with all the dlc for $1. Played it and found it to not be as fun as I thought it was going to be.

• The first line is a form of self therapy. I really like the Blade Runner line “like tears in the rain” because it brings understanding of insignificance. My thought is llms are starting to show their insignificance to benefit society; not that they can’t beneficial for certain task but overall. It’s just an opinion.

• This is why I like my old Jeep. It’s manual. It’s got great “security”. I always say it’s got an alarm system; because any small time thief would yell out of frustration. When I travel, I pull out the clutch pedal and take fuel relay out and unplug the battery and leave it in 4lo lol. Oh yeah and you have to unplug the clutch pedal fuse for it to start. If the battery has been unplugged, then you got remap the ECU which takes like a half hour of my shovel wedged against the gas pedal unless you want the engine stalling out every time you take your foot of the pedal. It’s also one of the rare colors, as in only 2000 made with dicks, I’m very childish, carved in hard to see spots to make it a nightmare for part thieves. So if you steal it, pretty much with a tow truck, it’s like putting a bullseye on yourself.

  The point was, there’s no controlling that. I don’t like all the new tech put into cars.

• I mean I get what you’re saying.

  But you estimated my level of spite too low. 🙃 I’m using outdated OS’s; sure everyone argues security, but nobody is going to bother with you when you’re one out of a million, why not just find an exploit for the million right?

  As far as what you mentioned, I pretty much don’t use any of that stuff anyway other than lemmy and facebook crap (for international friends). The bank and dmv, lol those idiots just had a major data breach where I live, require an ID already, I go there physically.

  A lot of things I do, are done through software and physical proxies.

  Whatever requires me to make an account or download a cr’app; I just find something else to do.

  I check on whatever info is floating on the web that’s easy to access. As far as I’m known, I’m Japanese, Married to an ex, and live in another state.

  At the end of the day, if push comes to shove, I have plenty of other things to do and get done that play these age verification games.

• Same here. The hardware is not bad but oh boy is the software the biggest pile of shit I’ve ever had to use. And I want to use my librem 5 (linux) phone but you need a stack of pokemon cards as batteries if you want it to last a day. They really should sell a charging deck for spare batteries so you can hot swap them.

  Jokes aside; trades suck. If you like hot ass heat, cramped places, constant injuries, buying your own tools, ruining your body before you reach forty, and annoying customers; then it’s the job for you. This is an anecdotal take but yeah it’s not fun. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I say I wish I did anything else for the last ten years. The money was good but the added pain isn’t worth it.

• Early access is like a Gachapon. You may get something you like, you might get trash. The trash might become great years later or on the contrast you might hate what you liked beforehand with final-ish changes. It’s a gamble, even triple A companies do this. Games like Fallout 4 or WoW changed the game to prepare for their new games or dlc that’s to be released.

• I agree, mines terrible in low light, the new tech has come a long way. I personally like to do it on hard mode. I mean I used to measure the photograph I wanted to take Ansel Adams style. So more math and planning to just take one shot. Like Adams, I’m amateur photographer and I like to do it for fun.

• I still use my old Nikon; why? Because I can put anything that resembles a lens on it. Or make my own lenses. I made one with a cardboard tube and pieces of a broken lens. Or used a enlarger lens to take pictures. I guess it depends on what you want to do. And well my eyes still work better than digital screens. I mean I don’t need a light meter to estimate shutter speed. But then again, I’m very much into photography.

• You know the irony of this is? My ex-fiances father was labeled as schizophrenic. I mean he was by textbook definition. One day, I would take her to visit him, he says that computers are tracking you. Now, I brushed it off at the time, probably a conspiracy theory right? but I did think about it.

  L3 was tracking internet data already, at least, in the early 2000’s. A little game of what’s connecting to my computer showed me that, but I didn’t know what it was at the time. Well now I know, g-sec company has been tracking us from routers for over twenty years; same company after the merger that makes EOTECHs. So the puzzle pieces came together.

  I kind of wondered if he really was schizophrenic or medicated to be so? As an a example, tramadol made me have auditory hallucinations that I’ve never experience on acid or mushrooms (college lol).
